As VP DAZN Canada, you will lead and manage the local DAZN function towards tangible growth metrics, taking the Canada business to the next level. Your leadership will steer DAZN’s growth in the market and you will be regularly challenged to ensure our ambitious targets are met.
You will play a key role in the development of DAZN’s growth strategy, providing essential local insight to the DAZN North American and EXCO Management teams. You will foster strong relationships with DAZN’s current and future rights partners, including NFL Game Pass, Champions League, Bundesliga, Europa League and combat sports (Boxing, MMA), and you will lead the execution of all local commercial agreements to build and grow our relationships on favourable terms.
You will engage with the sports media landscape including rights holders, agencies, clubs, commercial partners and fellow broadcasters to secure local market intelligence in relation to all local media rights and distribution strategies. You will use this information internally to define investment, negotiation and partnership strategies and to deliver the compelling proposition that will deliver on key local targets.
Your creative relationship management and networking will regularly identify opportunities for content partnerships and licensing opportunities. You will quickly learn to work successfully within the wider DAZN functions to optimise working practices and external relationships for collective benefit. As in market Leader for Canada, you will work closely with Central teams on Marketing, Product and Content strategies.
Core Responsibilities:
- Senior commercial leadership and management role, responsible for P&L and Strategy for DAZN Canada.
- Delivering market contribution and revenue targets for Canada, alongside DAZN subscriber growth in Canada towards defined KPIs and assisting the Media team to deliver Canada Advertising target.
- As the ‘on the ground’ leader the VP uses DAZN’s central teams to drive the business including:
- Customer acquisition and retention – through pricing strategy, marketing, and retention
- Content merchandising – setting clear direction for content teams on homepage promotion, in app promotion of different content, social media channels
- Product improvements specifically for Canada – setting requirements with central tech and product teams
- Setting pricing and offer strategies to maximise revenues and customer volumes
- Design and implementation of rights and commercial partnerships strategies. Drive negotiation of commercial agreements, including distribution and media rights agreements, working with DAZN’s partnership teams as required
- Lead senior level partnerships and stakeholders in Canada – including distribution partnerships with major cable operators and other platforms and Canadian Broadcasters, rights partners and advertisers.
- Manage and stay informed regarding requirements for Canadian regulator (CRTC) and be their main point of contact.
- Analysis of sports media industry trends to ensure a successful localisation of DAZN’s growth strategy.
- Lead regular business reviews to DAZN Management.
You’ll have:
- Relevant experience in the Canadian marketplace across commercial management, media rights acquisition and/or business development.
- Experience running a P&L and Direct to Consumer Business.
- Proven leadership abilities, supported by demonstrated track record in related industry role(s).
- Able to work in a matrix organisation and drive results via central teams (e.g. tech, marketing etc.)
- Exceptional knowledge of the Canadian sports media and new media industries. Good understanding of rights holder, agency, broadcaster, OEM, commercial partner and new media markets. Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior industry executives.
- Ability to secure and filter market intelligence to ensure accurate cost assessment of sports media rights, and successful commercial strategy design.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up actions.
- Exceptional communication skills across all levels of management, including Board level.
- Willingness to travel regularly in Canada and internationally.
