Job Summary:
The Senior Business Systems Analyst leads and delivers complex enterprise initiatives involving data, enterprise systems, and cloud-based solutions. This role is considered a senior individual contributor responsible for performing hands-on business and systems analysis across the full lifecycle of projects and initiatives — from early-pre-stage analysis (e.g. pre-project intake) to detailed needs assessment, solution evaluation, delivery and implementation.
This position supports key institutional priorities, including enterprise system transformations, data integration, reporting and analytics, and adoption of cloud-based platforms. The role operates within the Information Technology’s Product and Project Portfolio team, and collaborates closely with academic, business stakeholders, technical teams and peers.
Job Description:
A.Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Enterprise Intake, Solution Analysis, and Architecture/Security Alignment
- Conduct the analysis of project proposals and product intake requests, including elicitation of business needs, high-level requirements, expected outcomes, and identifying business value.
- Analyze and provide recommendations to support classification and prioritization of initiatives using defined criteria (e.g., scope, complexity, cost, risk and impact).
- Facilitate enterprise solution evaluation, coordinating cross-functional input across business, data, integration, and technical domains
- Develop solution options and recommendations, including analysis of benefits, trade-offs, risks, and dependencies.
- Prepare business cases, feasibility assessments, cost-benefit analysis, and benefits realization measures to support decision-making and investment prioritization.
- Support vendor and product assessments, including RFI/RFP analysis, fit-gap assessments, demonstrations, evaluation scoring, and recommendation development for third-party or enterprise technology solutions.
- Analyze the current enterprise systems landscape to identify duplication, integration opportunities, and alignment with institutional architecture and security standards.
2.Business and Systems Analysis Delivery
- Perform end-to-end business and systems analysis for complex initiatives, including elicitation, analysis, validation, and documentation of requirements.
- Translate business needs into structured requirements and solution artefacts (e.g., functional, and non-functional requirements, use cases, process models).
- Support solution design discussions by identifying impacts to systems, integrations, and data structures.
- Support primarily Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery approaches by leading requirements elicitation, analysis, comprehensive documentation, validation and traceability, while producing decision-ready and governance ready analysis deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
- Identify and recommend process improvement, standardization, automation, and service optimization opportunities that improve efficiency, reduce risk, and enhance user experience.
3.Technical and Data-Focused Analysis
- Analyze and support initiatives involving:Data integration, reporting and analytics solutions, data quality, data governance, and data classification practices.
- Collaborate with technical teams to define integration requirements, data flows, and interface specifications
- Contribute to solution design by understanding system capabilities, constraints, and integration patterns.
- Support transition activities, including testing (UAT), validation, and data-related readiness to ensure delivered solutions meet business requirements.
4.Stakeholder Engagement and Facilitation
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across academic, business, and IT areas
- Lead workshops and structured elicitation sessions to align stakeholders on objectives, priorities, and expected outcomes
- Communicate complex business and technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements for system implementations, integrations, reporting, and transformation initiatives
- Provide input into change impact assessments and support adoption planning, stakeholder readiness, communications, training inputs, and transition-to-operations activities.
5.Project Delivery Support
- Work closely with project managers, product managers, technical teams, and vendors to support successful delivery.
- Identify, document, and communicate risks, assumptions, dependencies, and impacts.
- Contribute to planning, testing, implementation, and transition activities.
- Ensure requirements traceability and validation of successful implementation of requirements.
6.Documentation and Communication
- Produce high-quality, structured, and business-ready documentation, including: business requirements, process models and diagrams, use case and scenarios, solution analysis, gap analysis etc.
- Translate complex information into clear, actionable deliverables suitable for decision-making
7.Practice Contribution
- Supporting the Manager, Business Analysis, provide guidance, and support to other business analysts, as needed.
- Contribute to the evolution of business analysis practices, templates, and standards.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead complex analysis workstreams, influence cross-functional decision-making, and provide senior-level guidance to stakeholders and project teams without formal supervisory authority.

B.Qualifications Required
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Industry certifications (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA or equivalent).
- Minimum six (6) years of recent experience performing and BA activities in Information Technology and business applications in a senior capacity, Enterprise Resource Planning experience as asset.
- Extensive experience performing business and systems analysis in complex environments (e.g., enterprise IT, public sector, or post-secondary).
- Extensive experience applying BABOK-aligned business analysis methodologies and techniques across Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery environments.
- Experience using tools that support business analysis, process modeling, requirements management, documentation, reporting, and decision-making such as Microsoft Visio, Excel, Jira, Jama, Azure DevOps, Power BI, or equivalent platforms an asset.
- Proven ability to conduct rigorous research and analysis of industry best practices, standards, frameworks, and solution approaches adopted by post-secondary institutions, government agencies, and other relevant organizations; evaluate their demonstrated outcomes and applicability; and provide objective, evidence-based recommendations supported by data, feasibility assessments, business value analysis, implementation considerations, and alignment with Langara College’s strategic objectives and operating environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in producing high-quality, structured, and decision-ready documentation
- Proven ability to independently deliver end-to-end business analysis across complex initiatives.
- Demonstrated excellence in stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and professional communication, with exceptional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to prepare clear, concise, professional, and audience-appropriate documentation, presentations, and reports, while effectively engaging and influencing business, technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong experience in data-related initiatives, including data integration, reporting, analytics, or data quality.
- Demonstrated experience working with enterprise systems, including ERP/SIS platforms such as Workday Student, Banner, or similar systems.
- Experience with enterprise data platforms, data warehousing, or analytics environments (e.g., data lakes, reporting platforms).
- Experience with data governance practices, including data quality, classification, and stewardship.
- Experience in legacy system decommissioning or system transition initiatives.
- Experience supporting cloud-based platforms, cloud migration, or digital transformation initiatives, including Microsoft 365, SharePoint Online, Teams, or similar environments.
- Knowledge of privacy, security, accessibility, data classification, records management, and compliance considerations as related to business analysis deliverables and solution recommendations an asset.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate (written and verbal) in both highly technical and non-technical environments with all levels of the organization.

- Understanding of integration patterns, APIs, or middleware platforms in enterprise environments
