Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT)
  • 5 years of relevant experience

  • Assists physician with minor procedures to include patient identification, site confirmation, preparation, instrumentation, and sterile technique
  • Educates patients regarding administration of ocular medications and pre-op/post-op instructions as directed by a physician
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
Responsibilities
  • Provides support to providers which includes documentation in patient charts as required and directed for patient care
  • Provides patient-centric care
  • Complies with University of Miami policies, standards, values, and required training
  • Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality
  • Follows best practices of patient safety, hand hygiene, and infection control
  • Attends educational courses for ophthalmic personnel when assigned
  • Demonstrates high quality of work through accuracy, timeliness, professionalism, and thoroughness
  • Meets daily productivity goals. Maintains JCAHPO certifications. Ensures all equipment is calibrated and instrumentation is in proper working order
  • Participates in assigned clinical research and maintains required certifications
  • Organizes and stocks rooms for daily clinical activities
  • Travels to satellite eye centers when necessary
  • Works evenings and weekends as needed
  • Performs organizational duties as assigned
  • Completes IVI (intravitreal injection) prep for patients
  • Facilitates motility exams. Supports Virtual Care encounters and exams
  • Performs imaging including but not limited to fundus photos, OCTs, and Slit Lamp exams
  • Assists with training and onboarding clinical support staff
  • Acts as a super-user for technology implementations, optimizations, and training initiatives
  • Acts as mentor and preceptor for ophthalmic team members
  • Serves as a lead technician providing oversight to clinical teams when assigned
  • Recommends and implements new technology and workflow improvements
  • Participates in the onboarding of residents and fellows
  • Oversees quality assurance of the clinical unit and addresses deficiencies in a timely and constructive manner
  • Reviews physician schedules, anticipates needs, and compiles external testing results
