- A Master’s degree in Nursing, Physician Assistant, or an equivalent advanced practice provider qualification is required.
- Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or qualification as a Physician Assistant is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in an intensive care unit is required; cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery experience is preferred.
- Strong clinical skills in critical care management and understanding of postoperative cardiothoracic patient care are required.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail and providing compassionate care is required.
- Perform thorough assessments of critically ill cardiothoracic patients, including histories, physical examinations, and ongoing evaluations.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results.
- Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians and the healthcare team.
- Continuously monitor and manage complex cases, including postoperative recovery, ventilation support, and hemodynamic management.
- When complex privileging is obtained, perform central line placement, arterial line insertion, intubation and extubation, and chest tube placement.
- Provide post-procedure care and patient education, ensure proper recovery, and address potential complications.
- Collaborate with attending cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care.
- Communicate with patients and families about treatment plans, recovery, and discharge processes.
- Attend daily rounds to discuss patient progress, concerns, and updates.
- Mentor and serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff, residents, and fellows.
- Participate in quality-improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical research efforts within the unit.
- Stay current with advancements in critical care medicine, particularly cardiothoracic care, and engage in continuing education.
- Experience in cardiothoracic or cardiac surgery is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, are preferred.
