Micron closes gap on SK Hynix to 1.6 points in $155B DRAM market race

Micron Technology is closing in on SK Hynix for the second-place position in the global DRAM market, trailing by just 1.6 percentage points in Q2 2026. Micron's DRAM revenue grew 66% quarter-over-quarter to $36 billion, capturing a 23.3% market share, whilst SK Hynix held 24.9% with $38.6 billion in revenue. The gap between the two companies has narrowed rapidly from 7.5 percentage points in Q3 2025 to the current 1.6 points. However, Micron's gains came primarily from conventional DRAM rather than high-bandwidth memory (HBM), where its market share actually fell to 18% from 21%. SK Hynix maintains approximately half the HBM market, whilst Samsung leads overall DRAM with a 39.4% share. Global DRAM revenue reached nearly $155 billion in Q2 2026.

Micron hits $1,000 after 662% rally on record 84.9% margins and $100B HBM deals

Micron Technology closed at $1,000.26, up 662% over the past year, driven by high-bandwidth memory demand for AI infrastructure. The company reported record 84.9% gross margins in fiscal Q3 2026, with revenue of $41.46 billion, up 345.7% year-over-year, and non-GAAP earnings per share of $25.11. Analysts note Micron holds $100 billion in locked floor-price agreements tied to Nvidia's HBM4 demand. The memory chipmaker, the only US-based manufacturer in its category, guided fiscal Q4 revenue to $50 billion. Bulls project shares could reach $1,347 if HBM4E production accelerates. One analysis sets a price target of $979, slightly below current levels, with a hold recommendation at 90% confidence.

Micron's $50B revenue target gets boost as SK Hynix surges 8.3% on AI-memory demand

Micron Technology received a bullish signal on Monday as SK Hynix surged 8.3% and Samsung Electronics rose 5.7%, while US markets remained closed for Labor Day. Micron had jumped 6.1% on Friday to $1,016.59. The memory chipmaker reported $41.46 billion in quarterly revenue with an 84.9% adjusted gross margin and $18.3 billion in adjusted free cash flow. Management guided fiscal fourth-quarter revenue to $50 billion, plus or minus $1 billion, with an adjusted gross margin near 86%. Reaching the midpoint would require sequential revenue growth of 20.6% before Micron reports on 30 September. At current levels, shares trade 63.22% above their $622.82 GF Value estimate. The company must now demonstrate that AI demand can deliver on its extraordinary revenue target.

Citadel slashes Micron stake by 87% despite chip stock's 671% surge

Ken Griffin's Citadel Advisors has slashed its stake in Micron Technology by 87%, reducing its position from roughly 4.6 million shares to 600,523 shares over the last three months. The move comes even as Micron shares surged 671% over the past year amid the AI memory boom. The reduction was not isolated. Citadel also cut its Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing stake by 87%, trimming roughly 3.5 million shares, and reduced STMicroelectronics holdings by 44%. The hedge fund made broad cuts across sectors, including General Electric (down 72%), Citigroup (down 63%), and Tesla (down 41%). This suggests Citadel may have been reducing overall risk rather than making a bearish call on semiconductors specifically. Micron's fiscal third quarter 2026 revenue reached $41.5 billion, up 346% year over year.
