Requirements
  • Two years of related work experience in the same job family and a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Proven leadership and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in laboratory information systems.
  • Excellent attendance and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a clinical environment.
  • Effective communication skills across all levels of staff and proficiency in multitasking.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical laboratory techniques, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a unit or function, including overseeing and coordinating projects or work processes, and distribute the work of a minimum of two full-time employees.
  • Perform laboratory tests and procedures in various areas, record results, and interpret and analyze test and procedure results.
  • Test for and ensure quality control of slides, specimens, and cultures; set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor, measure, identify, investigate, report, and resolve quality concerns and opportunities, and participate in developing new policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and instruct support staff and serve as a source of information on specialized laboratory techniques and equipment operation.
  • Prepare specimens, tissue, bodily fluid samples, and other matter for analysis and diagnosis using specialized laboratory techniques.
  • Stain and mount slides, prepare specialized solutions and media, and culture tissues.
  • Develop and modify laboratory techniques and procedures and order and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Photograph specimens and other matter and develop film when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Technology with a background in Immunology and Histocompatibility.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems such as EPIC and HistoTrac, and familiarity with CAP and other regulatory inspections.
  • Additional certifications such as CHT(ACHI) or CHS(ACHI) for candidates with extensive experience.
  • ASCP Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS) Certification with experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
