  • Completion of a Rehabilitation Therapist Diploma.
  • Fluency in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse population.
  • Willingness to provide a high level of client service to all demographics.
  • A desire to help others with compassion and empathy.
Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Monitor residents' ability to participate in therapy interventions.
  • Prepare and maintain inventories of equipment and supplies and assist with individual or group maintenance programs as directed by the Therapist.
  • Provide repairs or modifications to resident equipment as needed.
  • Maintain infection-control practices in the treatment area and on equipment.
  • Provide and distribute equipment as needed.
  • Participate in information sharing and communication.
  • Collect, record, and manage data in a computer program.
  • Assist with assessing, planning, implementing, and delivering therapy programs to encourage residents to function at their maximum potential.
  • Repair wheelchairs and walkers and adjust them to meet residents' functional goals.
  • Assist with implementing care plans and provide residents with additional training and education.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience in continuing care or gerontology.
  • Post-secondary education.
  • Advocating for the role of occupational therapy to help improve residents' lives.
