Job Description
The Research Specialist will be responsible for conducting work in Goat Management and Parasitology. Working is performed under general supervision and evaluated based on the project's outcome and assigned tasks. The position requires laboratory (50 % FTE) and fieldwork (50 % FTE) with animals.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Assess Animal Health by checking Fecal egg counts, FAMACHA score, and body condition score.
Compiles and reviews data and metadata. Keeping records of treated animals on the farm is required.
Collects samples and measurement data from experiments. Sample collection includes blood, tissue, rumen fluid, and fecal samples.
Performs analysis and tests. McMaster technique for fecal egg counts, packed cellular volume for blood samples, and body weight.
Extracts, collects and compiles data. Maintains databases and extends projections.
Develops and maintains training materials for external users. Providing regular maintenance on microscopes for fecal egg counts, micro-centrifuges, and FAMACHA cards.
Performs other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree.
Four years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Qualification:
Ability to work with Sheep and Goats.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
Ability to exert heavy force.
Working beyond regular business hours and/or working on weekends.
