Requirements
  • Previous nursing experience with demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize using the nursing process in a high-volume outpatient environment.
  • Competent clinical triage and critical-thinking skills.
  • Evidence of maintaining professional skills and competency, including attendance at educational programs such as seminars and workshops appropriate to the field.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and write well.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Computer proficiency related to use of an electronic medical record.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut.
  • Ability to meet healthcare-worker health requirements, including required immunizations and screenings.
Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to deliver high-quality, comprehensive, and individualized care to Yale Health members.
  • Collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary team to support team activities and positive patient outcomes.
  • Delegate responsibilities to appropriate members of the care delivery team based on their roles, scope of practice, knowledge, and capabilities.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by responding appropriately to the need for change.
  • Maintain collaborative work relationships with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity.
  • Successfully complete competency-based orientation within the designated timeframe.
  • Identify self-learning needs and actively participate in meeting them with the leadership team; set and achieve professional goals.
  • Deliver excellent patient care through compliance with patient-safety and regulatory initiatives.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, families, colleagues, care-team members, and hospital personnel; accept and elicit feedback and work toward resolving problems and clarifying concerns.
  • Use resources in a fiscally sound manner.
  • Comply with University, state, and federal healthcare regulations.
  • Perform triage, assessment, care coordination, follow-up, transitional care, clinical evaluation, and clinical decision-making for the assigned population and unit.
  • Prioritize care and determine patient disposition during telephonic, scheduled, and unscheduled in-person encounters.
  • Follow nursing principles, medication-safety requirements, and scope-of-practice standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity while providing safe, evidence-based care tailored to individual patient and family needs.
  • Support clinicians and care-team members in prioritizing and anticipating patient-care needs.
  • Foster ongoing service improvements and a culture that prioritizes safety.
  • Interface with key clinical partners, make difficult decisions, and facilitate resolution.
Desired Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in an in-patient hospital unit in the relevant specialty.
  • At least two years of experience in a medical/surgical unit, ambulatory care, primary care, sub-acute facility, or college health center.
  • Experience as a dermatology registered nurse.
  • Active membership in professional organizations.
