Requirements
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a Grade Point Average of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State University.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Customer service experience or proven ability to work with the public.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn, and apply procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple duties.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot standard office machines such as personal computers, scanners, fax machines, copiers, shredders, and calculators.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Canvas/WebCampus.
Responsibilities
  • Complete specialized training and use multiple library systems to accurately perform circulation and service desk functions.
  • Train, mentor, and support new library student workers.
  • Independently staff the library service desk and provide advanced customer service support to patrons.
  • Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan materials using an interlibrary loan management system.
  • Apply judgment and enforce library policies and procedures to resolve routine to moderately complex service issues.
  • Collaborate with library faculty and staff to improve service workflows and the patron experience.
  • Manage service demands during busy periods and prioritize assigned projects.
  • Participate in library assessment processes involving research, testing, and evaluation.
  • Provide tier 1 technology, phone, online, and walk-in support including ticket creation and basic troubleshooting for hardware, software, and campus network services.
  • Collaborate with library faculty and staff to design, create, and promote outreach and programming materials.
  • Assist with the development of outreach programming, events, and workshops.
  • Represent the library at campus events by tabling and engaging with the campus community to promote library services and resources.
  • Employ research techniques and data interpretation to help patrons identify and evaluate information resources.
  • Assist in the creation of research guides, tutorials, or instructional materials related to library services and research skills.
  • Assess patron research needs and make informed decisions about when to refer users to librarian consultations.
  • Communicate library research practices, tools, and policies clearly and accurately to patrons.

  • Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience and/or experience in the hospitality or retail sector.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative in generating ideas to enhance library services.
