We are looking for a Staff Avionics and Communications Electrical Engineering Professional to join our team. The goal of an Staff Avionics and Communications Electrical Engineer at Wisk is to ensure that the communication system in the aircraft supports all the capabilities required for autonomous flights.
You will be part of the Airborne Communications team that develops and integrates the wireless communications and data transfer hardware in the aircraft, including radios, antennas, flight computers and various other data busses and networks, data management systems, and avionics systems.
Why we need you:
- The successful candidate is a dynamic Electrical Engineer which is familiar with avionics integration and the challenges (and rewards!) in the development of new and state of the art aircraft. They can quickly grasp the overall picture in which their system operates, they can support Systems Engineers in the architectural and functional development, and gradually take ownership of the system implementation, without ever shying away from a trip to the lab to verify performance and validate requirements. They are familiar with both modern (high performance) and traditional (low complexity) communication architectures and networks, across both wired and wireless media, and have hands-on experience in their deployment, troubleshooting, and statistical performance analysis. In this role, the candidate must be proactive and self-motivated, must be able to complete deliverables independently and on schedule, must maintain good communication with all the stakeholders, and must thrive in a dynamic work environment.
What you will do:
- As part of the Mission Management System IPT organization, and deployed in an Airborne Communication team you will act as a Staff Avionics and Communications Electrical Engineer for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
- You will support engineering development, testing, safety analysis, and documentation of the aircraft wireless communications and data handling system.
- You will oversee technical electrical and interface aspects of sub-system contracts and vendors.
- You will work closely with Systems Engineers to write requirements for the wireless communications and data handling systems.
- You will evaluate options for improving the functional and physical design of the avionics and communications systems.
- You will review, approve, test plans, design documentation and implementation
- You will execute test plans and troubleshoot integration issues.
- You will provide product direction for custom avionics for wireless communications and data handling.
What you have done:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline with at least 10 years of experience
- You have great interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.
- You have demonstrated the ability to manage tasks and projects involving peers across several disciplines.
- You have demonstrated capabilities in designing and integrating complex avionics systems, including requirements generation and validation, ICD review and development, and software architecture definition.
- You have design knowledge of communication buses and networks (RS-232/422/485, ARINC429, IEEE 802.3, ARINC664), familiarity with related protocols from physical to application layer (Internet protocol suite, integrity and authentication algorithms), and capability to analyze and develop new host-layer protocols.
- You have design knowledge of communication networks (routing, filtering, L2/L3 switching, multicast, endpoints configuration) and familiarity with related troubleshooting and testing tools (Wireshark, iPerf3, netcat, SSH/SCP).
Desired:
- You have the capability to program prototyping tools in a language of choice (C/C++, Python, shell scripts, etc.) and familiarity with integration and troubleshooting of embedded systems.
- You have familiarity with wireless communication systems design and testing (point-to-point and networked systems, microwave measurement techniques, link budgets).
- You understand Aerospace Recommended Practices ARP 4754 and ARP 4761, and have experience with safety analysis such as FHA, SSA, CCA, PRA.
Who you are:
- You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges
- You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset
- You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communications to suit the audience
