Requirements
  • High school diploma supplemented with related clerical or administrative experience in social services or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of fraud and collection laws and policies, office and administrative practices, spelling, grammar and punctuation, office terminology and procedures, office equipment technology, office software programs, and mathematics for calculating percentages, formulas, and averages.
  • Working knowledge of elementary bookkeeping and accounting.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot problems with computer systems, automation equipment, and general office equipment.
  • Ability to develop spreadsheets, organize information, and develop and maintain records in various formats.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, follow written and oral instructions, multitask, collect and disseminate information, make computations accurately, file alphabetically or numerically, proofread, type from clear copy or draft, and make minor decisions according to regulations and established practices.
  • Ability to advise on and interpret policies and procedures when researching and resolving inquiries, requests, and complaints.
  • Experience interacting professionally with the general public by phone and in person.
  • Proficiency with various computer software programs and data entry.
  • Valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in Virginia and a driving record meeting agency requirements.
  • Successful completion of required criminal history, central registry, driving record, fingerprint, employment, reference, education, credit, and other background checks.
  • Willingness to work in the community emergency shelter during a natural disaster or emergency and complete shelter duty training.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Fraud Supervisor and three Fraud workers.
  • Work closely with the agency's Assistant Director to ensure effective and accurate accounting for each collection account.
  • Use the TOPS system and serve as the agency's TOPS Coordinator.
  • Provide backup coverage for other clerical units as necessary.
  • Stay informed and up to date on policies, procedures, and forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
