Requirements
  • A college or university degree in a related field.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Responsibilities
  • Manages the University's commercial and self-insurance programs procurement and related processes for renewal.
  • Works with Executive Director to develop annual insurance strategy and budgets.
  • Ensures processes in place for proper reporting of claims to insurance companies.
  • Reviews and negotiates University contracts to ensure proper insurance and indemnification provisions.
  • Provides consultation on contractual insurance requirements to campus community.
  • Develops processes to ensure departments and units are in compliance with established policy for vendor compliance with required insurance coverages and limits.
  • Drafts and implements written policy and procedures on departmental operations, reporting of claims, law suits and day-to-day operations.
  • Assembles, tracks and maintains statement of values for buildings and satellite properties.
  • Assembles, tracks and maintains active vehicle list.
  • Serves as a consultant to units, providing general risk management advice and analysis.
  • Builds strong relationships and works collaboratively with campus stakeholders to identify unaddressed areas of risk.
  • Participates and provides support for University committees as needed.
  • Works with insurance brokers assembling certificates of insurance for distribution to campus stakeholders.
  • Works in partnership with direct insurers and brokers to ensure timely completion and submission of annual renewal applications.
  • Maintains relationship with direct insurers and brokers.
  • Leads campus tours with insurers.
  • Completes insurance policy summaries.
  • Partners with Executive Director to develop insurance budget management and premium payments.
  • Manages insurance invoices, reviews charges and submits to Executive director for final review and approval.
  • Manages annual insurance recharge process.
  • Reviews renewal proposals submitted by brokers and direct writers of insurance.
  • Reviews insurance policies for accuracy.
  • Requests and tracks correction endorsements.
  • Maintains updated schedule of insurance.
  • Maintains reports as needed.
  • Performs specialized analysis to identify, evaluate and plan strategies for the University's insurance programs in order to maximize protection of assets at the most economical rates and minimize effects of fortuitous loss.
  • Prepares insurance renewal strategy plan, including goals and expected outcomes. Independently reviews insurance programs for effectiveness of coverage and to reduce insurance costs and losses. Prepares insurance specifications, receives and reviews insurance proposals, performs cost analyses and recommends insurance purchases. Reviews insurance policies for accuracy and follows-up for corrections. Implements procedures for reporting changes and claims to insurers that are compliant with insurance policy requirements. Monitors insurance company financial strength on current and expired insurance to identify possible failures and manage claims against insolvent insurers.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Background working for an insurance broker, higher education institution, or internal risk management department.
  • Skilled with placement healthcare coverages.
  • Designations or certificates (CPCU, ARM, etc.) in insurance or risk management.
  • Read, analyze and understand insurance policies, claims documents and contracts.
  • Strong understanding of financial risk transfer and basic understanding of actuarial modeling.
  • General understanding of contract and corporate law, loss prevention and claims management philosophies.
  • Attentive to details.
  • Understand and identify risks.
  • Handle multiple projects at one time.
  • Strong fundamentals in finance and a technical ability to understand complex, non-traditional insurance policies.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of campus stakeholders.
