GE Aerospace to acquire Consolidated Precision Products to expand mission-critical castings capacity

GE Aerospace has signed an agreement to acquire Consolidated Precision Products (CPP), a leading manufacturer of highly engineered castings, from private investment firms Warburg Pincus and Berkshire Partners. CPP, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, produces complex castings for commercial aerospace and defence markets and employs approximately 6,600 people across more than 20 facilities globally. GE Aerospace chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp Jr said the acquisition will expand mission-critical casting capacity to support strong demand across commercial engines, aftermarket, and defence. The company plans to integrate CPP's manufacturing expertise with its FLIGHT DECK technology platform to improve performance and accelerate new engine technologies. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

Posted By: Rob Vogelaar September 4, 2026 Aviation News - GE Aerospace has secured a pivotal contract from the U.S. Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to develop Derecho, an air-launched hypersonic test vehicle engineered to reach speeds of Mach 5 and above. The development marks a major step forward for the Department of Defense as it seeks to accelerate airborne hypersonic evaluation capabilities through high-frequency testing. The award funds the next major phase of the Pentagon's Hypersonic and High-Cadence Airborne Testing Capabilities (HyCAT) program. Under the new agreement, GE Aerospace will execute full vehicle integration alongside component-level qualification testing for critical subsystems. While the defense contractor has kept the specific financial value of the contract confidential, this phase builds directly upon initial concept and subsystem design work initiated in 2023. The Defense Innovation Unit selected GE Aerospace to address a critical bottleneck in national defense research: the lack of low-cost, repeatable hypersonic flight testing opportunities. By leveraging commercial innovation and agile prototyping, the HyCAT program aims to streamline how defense agencies gather flight data at extreme atmospheric speeds. Hypersonix Launch Systems The air-launched Derecho platform operates using an all-up-round architecture that pairs a high-thrust rocket booster with a high-speed cruiser system. Once the booster propels the vehicle to initial supersonic thresholds, the cruiser transitions to GE Aerospace's advanced dual-mode ramjet technology, maintaining sustained hypersonic velocities at Mach 5. The liquid-fueled vehicle functions as a modular testbed to evaluate heat-resistant materials, sensors, and flight controls in real hypersonic. "Acceleration in this type of hypersonic testing is critical to advancing next-generation capabilities at speed and scale," said Steve "Doogie" Russell, Vice President and General Manager of Edison Works at GE Aerospace. "This work with DIU builds on years of investment and progress, and Aviation News is proud to help deliver a flexible, responsive test solution to support national defense priorities". Successful integration and subsystem testing of the Derecho system will clear the path for routine hypersonic flight demonstrations in the coming years. As the military shifts toward rapid prototyping, scalable flight platforms will play a vital role in validating future hypersonic defense systems. GE Aerospace has solidified its defense role by advancing the Derecho vehicle under the DIU HyCAT contract. Updated 3 Sep 2026, 06:36 PM IST US defence major GE Aerospace said on Thursday that it delivered three F404-IN20 engines to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in August for India's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas programme. The latest shipment comes as HAL continues to receive F404 engines for the LCA Tejas Mk1A programme, which has experienced delays because of supply-related constraints. "GE Aerospace shipped three F404-IN20 engines to HAL in August 2026. We are proud to partner with HAL and the Indian Air Force to power India's indigenous fighter jets," the company said in a statement. Former HAL Chairman DK Sunil told ANI in April said that GE had committed to supplying 20 F404 engines between June and December 2026. The availability of these engines has been a major factor behind delays in the production and delivery of LCA Mk1A aircraft. "We have five engines, the sixth engine is ready now. It will be picked up shortly. Last time, when I visited GE, the assurance was that they would give us 20 engines in the second half of this calendar year, between June and December. This is the indication from GE and this is a pessimistic number; they have told me they should do better," Sunil stated. While HAL has said its production line is ready, aircraft deliveries remain dependent on the timely supply of GE's F404 engines. HAL has also imposed contractual penalties on GE over delays in delivering the engines. "The contract includes a provision stating that if there is a delay in the delivery of F-404 engines for the Light Combat Aircraft, liquidated damages will be imposed on GE Aviation. So the cost is being imposed as per the contract," HAL officials had stated then. The Indian Air Force has placed an order with HAL for 180 LCA Mk1A fighter aircraft. GE Aerospace restarted F404-IN20 production after HAL's fresh 99-engine order for Tejas Mk1A. HAL had earlier received the seventh F404-IN20 engine from GE Aerospace for the Tejas Mk1A fighter programme. Under a ₹5,375-crore contract signed in 2021 for the Tejas Mk1A fleet, GE Aerospace is scheduled to supply HAL with 99 of these engines. According to information shared on GE Aerospace's website, the F404-IN20 is a version specifically developed for India's single-engine fighter. It delivers the highest thrust in the F404 engine family and incorporates a higher-flow fan, single-crystal turbine blades and other specialised components. GE Aerospace describes the F404 as one of the most successful military aviation engines, with the powerplant used in thousands of combat aircraft worldwide. GE Aerospace said it had completed its earlier commitment to HAL by supplying 65 F404-IN20 engines for the Tejas LCA programme by 2016. As there were no further engine orders at the time, GE subsequently halted production of the F404-IN20. The company resumed manufacturing the engine after HAL placed a fresh order for 99 F404-IN20 engines in 2021 for the Tejas Mk1A LCA. The production line, which had been inactive for five years, was restarted, along with the engine's global supply chain. GE Aerospace said its teams worked closely with the Tejas programme over several years to modify and tailor the F404-IN20 to meet the requirements of the Indian Air Force. According to the company, the F404 engine has proved to be well suited to the Tejas LCA. During the aircraft's first test flight in 2008, it climbed to several mission altitudes and reached a speed of Mach 1.1. GE Aerospace described the latest engine delivery as evidence of the achievements made in its four-decade partnership with HAL and as an indication of the two companies' potential to support the future of India's military. The American aircraft engine manufacturer said the delivery marked a significant milestone in its 40-year association with HAL and reflected its efforts to support India's defence capabilities by contributing to next-generation fighter development and strengthening the country's defence manufacturing ecosystem. GE Aerospace has been involved in military jet propulsion projects in India for several decades. Its collaboration with the country dates back to work with the Aeronautical Development Agency in the 1980s. In 2004, GE Aerospace's F404-IN20 was selected to power India's single-engine Tejas fighter, which the company called a major milestone for both India and GE Aerospace.

This aerospace stock is cheap, but does that make it a buy today? For this aerospace-focused conglomerate, spinoff plans are not necessarily a silver bullet. Benefiting from strong demand, literal highfliers like GE Aerospace (GE +0.78%) have rallied 22% over the past year. Other names, including TransDigm Group (TDG -0.60%), continue to sport valuations like those of tech stocks. However, not every aerospace stock is performing well and trading at sky-high multiples. Take, for instance, Textron (TXT -0.17%). Although largely an aerospace company, it trades at a conglomerate discount due to its diversified portfolio of businesses. However, with Textron in the midst of splitting up, could it soon bridge the valuation gap? Textron, its valuation, and spinoff plans. At first glance, Textron's "conglomerate discount" to aerospace pure plays appears overdone. After all, while this stock trades for around 13 times forward earnings, TransDigm trades for around 25 times forward earnings. GE Aerospace is even more richly priced, at around 44 times forward earnings. Back in April, management announced plans to spin off its industrial segment as a separate publicly traded company. After the spinoff, scheduled for mid-to-late 2027, the "new" Textron would consist of its Cessna and Beechcraft aircraft businesses, its Bell helicopter business, and its aerospace and defense technologies unit Textron Systems. What a spinoff can't solve. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that a spinoff of its noncore businesses turns Textron into the next TransDigm or GE Aerospace. It's not just the "conglomerate discount" weighing on Textron's valuation. When Textron last released quarterly earnings in July, the company reported just modest levels of earnings and sales growth, reiterated rather than raised guidance, and disclosed how its full-year guidance hinges on securing additional funding for the MV-75 Cheyenne Program. Considering this, Textron needs more than just a spinoff of its industrial segment. Although spinning off low-margin businesses like its E-Z-GO golf cart brand will unleash an aerospace pure play, either Textron's core business will need to demonstrate improved results, or management must provide a concrete plan to reignite growth. South Korea selects GE Aerospace engines to power KDDX destroyers. South Korea has selected GE Aerospace to supply 12 LM2500+G4 marine gas turbines for its upcoming six-unit fleet of next-generation KDDX destroyers. The engines, which will integrate with the destroyers' full electric propulsion system, are set to meet the power demands of the first ship in Korean Navy history to feature stealth-integrated radar and carry anti-aircraft and land-attack missiles. According to GE Aerospace, the configuration offers improved fuel economy, operational flexibility, power for future growth, and enhanced survivability and redundancy. Company VP and General Manager Asha Belarski described the transition to full electric propulsion as "a step toward the next generation of naval power." "The selection of GE Aerospace's LM2500+G4 technology strengthens our strong collaborations in Korea and demonstrates our commitment to local manufacturing," she added. LM2500+G4 engine. The LM2500+G4 features a zero-stage high-pressure compressor blisk and other technical improvements that enable 33 percent greater airflow and higher firing temperatures while maintaining the same footprint as the base LM2500. It also powers Italian, French, Egyptian, and Moroccan FREMM frigates, and was chosen by the US Navy for its Constellation-class (FFG-62) vessel and DDG(X) Land Based Test Site. The American company will work with South Korean licensed manufacturers to deliver the LM2500+G4 engines, with each KDDX destroyer receiving two engines housed in GE Aerospace's latest lightweight composite enclosure. GE Aerospace will work with prime contractor Hanwha Aerospace on the lead ship to manufacture and assemble engine components, test the system, and provide service support locally. Meanwhile, South Korean firm NRTEC will manufacture the lightweight composite engine enclosure in Busan. The enclosure weighs more than 2,500 kilograms (5,512 pounds) less than its steel predecessor while retaining the same footprint as the LM2500. It is also designed to improve crew conditions by reducing noise levels by 60 percent and lowering wall temperatures by 25 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit (14 to 28 degrees Celsius).
