Requirements
  • Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant-approved program for Physician Assistants, or completion of a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
  • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants is required for Physician Assistants.
  • Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or an equivalent body is required for Nurse Practitioners.
  • The position requires clinical experience; new graduates cannot be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct focused history taking and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic testing, and perform necessary procedures within a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Work closely with emergency department attending physicians in a collaborative care model, staffing all Emergency Severity Index levels 1, 2, and 3.
  • Order and call appropriate consultations to coordinate specialty emergency care, including calling hospitalists for admissions.
  • Manage multiple active patients simultaneously.
  • Document histories of present illness, clinical findings, interpretations of laboratory tests and imaging, dispositions, and treatment plans accurately in the EPIC electronic medical record system.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of clinical Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner experience, or two years of experience plus completion of an approved postgraduate emergency medicine training program.
  • Clinical emergency medicine and/or urgent care experience.
