Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Certification as a Paramedic is required, with at least one year of patient-care experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Basic Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association are required.
  • The employee must successfully complete online course modules, phlebotomy training and skills validation for basic and advanced skills, and electrocardiogram training within six months of hire, achieving at least an 80% score on each test within two attempts.
  • Successful completion of Emergency Department Technician unit-specific training and competency demonstration is required within the first six months of employment.
  • The role requires the ability to work irregular hours, rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • The employee must deal effectively with stressful situations and meet the specified physical, sensory, vision, hearing, and respirator-use requirements.
  • For the MUSC RHN pathway, candidates may qualify with a South Carolina Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Medical Assistant, or Paramedic certification and the specified acute-care, emergency-medical-services, military-medical, or college-and-acute-care experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification must be maintained annually; current American Heart Association Basic Life Support or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
  • Perform multi-skilled activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to support patient-centered emergency-department care and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Maintain required annual competencies to remain at the Emergency Department Technician III level.
