Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required.
  • A current Arizona Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Two years of clinical experience are required; pediatric experience is preferred.
  • Three years of experience working in a school front office and with student information management systems are required.
  • At least one year of experience in a leadership position is required.
  • Current adult and child cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • An active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
  • The ability to respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations is required.
  • The ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions under pressure in varied situations is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with students, parents or guardians, staff, and outside agencies is required.
  • Proficiency with computers and basic software applications is required.
  • The ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff is required.
  • Knowledge of procedures, practices, materials, and equipment required to provide appropriate learning experiences for assigned students is required.
  • The ability to build professional working relationships with colleagues, students, and families is required.

  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, use hands and arms to input data and handle items, and occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate health services programs within the assigned ASU Prep schools.
  • Supervise Health Assistants at the assigned schools.
  • Evaluate Health Assistants at the assigned schools.
  • Rotate on-campus health office support in collaboration with school principals.
  • Respond to health emergencies on assigned campuses.
  • Maintain records of personnel who have attended mandatory training.
  • Maintain knowledge of state health-related laws and protocols and inform health staff of changes or additions.
  • Maintain documentation of health office procedures.
  • Cover for Health Assistants as needed.
  • Support training needs and ongoing administrative duties for all ASU Prep Arizona campuses.
  • Collaborate with other ASU Prep registered nurses and Health Assistants on professional learning and department needs.
  • Lead health services team meetings in collaboration with the Director of ESS.
  • Provide direct nursing care, including first aid, emergency care, medication administration, and specialized medical procedures, to ill or medically fragile students and students with mental health needs according to district policies and protocols.
  • Prepare portable ice packs and ensure medications are secured in a locked cabinet.
  • Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications to students in accordance with board policy and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Arrange parent conferences for special health needs and direct parents to available community resources.
  • Train principal designees to administer medications, procedures, and emergency treatments as appropriate.
  • Assess student safety, abuse, and health-related issues; identify problems; make referrals as appropriate; and comply with legal requirements.
  • Document health information accurately.
  • Follow Arizona state laws, district policies, and protocols related to communicable disease, immunizations, mandated hearing and vision screening, and child abuse; make referrals and submit required reports.
  • Supervise and administer mandated vision and hearing screenings, referrals, and assistance with follow-up care; submit required reports.
  • Provide education and training related to acute and chronic illness and health-related topics and serve as a resource for students, parents or guardians, and staff.
  • Develop individualized care plans and emergency plans for students with health care needs, maintain contact with staff, parents or guardians, and medical providers to implement health care directions, and notify them of changes in student health in the school setting.
  • Identify health and safety concerns in the school environment and promote a nurturing school environment.
  • Maintain confidential student health information and records.
  • Maintain the health office, supplies, and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
