Job Description:
Parsons is seeking a Research Scientist III to support Naval Medical Research Unit – San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) and its collaborating institutions in the conduct of research in Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine, Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine, and Directed Energy. NAMRU-SA’s mission is to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DoD personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
The Research Scientist will be responsible for planning, conducting, and promoting basic and applied research in Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine. In addition, the Research Scientist will serve as team leader of a multidisciplinary government and contractor team and mentor scientists, engineers, and technicians.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Oversees contract personnel associated with research projects; manages research data.
- Provides expertise in development and conduct of protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspect of military medicine, including hemorrhage and resuscitation, immunomodulation, biomedical systems, bioassay development, craniofacial, infectious diseases and directed energy bioeffects.
- Provides supervision and guidance to junior scientist contract personnel in writing Government approved: protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human use protocols, technical reports, final reports, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Provides guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data sets (provided by the Government and collected by the Contractor); development of presentation materials, writing of Government approved SOPs for research under contract and presenting findings at technical and professional meetings.
- Provides supervision for junior scientist contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aid in the training and the development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.
- Provides support in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.
- Performs surgical procedures on animal models for both survival and non-survival.
- Translates DoD mission deficiencies/requirements into science and technology investment strategies and programs.
What Required Skills You’ll Bring:
- PhD in related biophysics or related field plus seven (7) years’ post-doctoral experience.At least three (3) of those years’ hainving experience in conducting research in Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine including biomedical systems engineering and evaluation, cellular and immune based adjunct for casualty care, and expeditionary and trauma medicine.
- Demonstrated ability and skill to prepare all aspects of professionally accepted scientific reports including methods, data interpretation, presentation, and significance of findings in relation to other findings by peers, and present effective oral presentations.
- Applicants selected for employment will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet additional eligibility requirements for access to classified information or materials.
- Ability to use sound judgment in problem solving and excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:
- Experience in the oversight and management of 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 federal research programs, including the preparation, planning, execution, and reporting research according to DoD requirements.
- Knowledge of contractual program management procedures and requirements.
- Experience conducting research in Craniofacial Health and Restorative Medicine including biomaterials, epidemiology, environmental surveillance, and maxillofacial injury and disease.
- Experience conducting research in Directed Energy including medical laser bioeffects, medical electromagnetic field (EMF) bioeffects, and medical modeling and simulation of directed energy bioeffects.
