Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Instruct students and parents on the application process.
  • Assist in decisions about awarding scholarships, grants, and other monetary assistance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of private, state, and federal financial aid programs.
  • Audit financial aid accounts for accuracy and report concerns to appropriate managing staff.
  • Develop policy and procedure manuals, including daily office practices.
  • Coordinate financial aid events and scholarship fairs.
  • Develop financial aid policies and administer academic plan programs.
  • Hire, mentor, supervise, train, and evaluate department staff.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and report on financial goals and objectives.
  • Establish and continuously assess internal controls within the unit, and ensure employees are trained on controls and University policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary operational lead for the Medical School Financial Assistance Office, managing customer service activities, serving as the first point of contact for student inquiries, and resolving complex cases.
  • Implement FAFSA and CSS Profile processing, exercising professional judgment to resolve eligibility issues, verification requirements, CFLAGS, and awards of federal, institutional, and private financial aid.
  • Collaborate with lending partners and internal stakeholders to process, certify, and monitor private educational loans.
  • Coordinate financial aid disbursement processes, including return of funds, reallocations, corrections, and other adjustments.
  • Modify financial aid packages based on enrollment changes, budget adjustments, additional resources, and other eligibility considerations.
  • Maintain student financial aid records and documentation in accordance with federal, state, institutional, and audit requirements.
  • Serve as designated backup for critical financial aid operations.
  • Administer and evaluate Satisfactory Academic Progress reviews and appeals.
  • Conduct reviews and make recommendations for professional judgment requests, special circumstances, dependency overrides, and merit scholarship appeals.
  • Provide operational support for financial aid programs to maintain compliance, audit readiness, and accurate documentation.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain financial aid policies, procedures, and operational workflows with the Senior Director of Financial Aid and Enrollment Management.
  • Assist with reconciliation activities, reporting requirements, audits, and program reviews related to federal, state, institutional, and private funding sources.
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in federal aid regulations, institutional methodology, and health professions financial aid administration.
  • Provide individualized financial aid counseling to prospective, incoming, and enrolled students and their families regarding financing options, indebtedness management, loan repayment strategies, and financial planning.
  • Lead financial aid outreach and education initiatives, including presentations, workshops, orientations, admissions events, and communications.
  • Coordinate financial aid activities related to admissions, orientation, registration, graduation, and other student lifecycle events.
  • Lead the institution's debt management program, including operations, educational programming, events, resources, and student engagement initiatives.
  • Engage with AAMC FIRST resources and other professional organizations to maintain expertise in physician loan repayment strategies, financial wellness, and emerging best practices.
  • Partner with student leaders and institutional stakeholders to assess debt management program effectiveness.
  • Develop key performance indicators, evaluate outcomes, and recommend enhancements for the debt management program.
  • Lead marketing, promotion, and event planning for debt management and financial wellness programming.
  • Support institutional efforts related to student affordability, indebtedness monitoring, and financial wellness initiatives.
  • Assist with additional projects, special assignments, and strategic initiatives as requested.
