Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or other related disciplines; an M.S. is preferred
  • Graduate from University and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software
  • Exposed to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research)
  • Professional or chartered engineer license
  • At least ten (10) years of related engineering experience in a shipyard, design/consulting office, shipping/oil company, or a classification society; or two (2) years as an Engineer II for those with Hull backgrounds
  • B.S. degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or other related disciplines for those with Machinery backgrounds
  • Seagoing engineering license or professional/chartered engineer license for those with Machinery backgrounds
Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day leadership of Engineering staff assigned
  • Assigns projects to Engineers and monitors the progress of all assigned projects
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality service and maintenance of good customer relations
  • Devises new approaches to problems encountered and makes recommendations for changes in methods, procedures, or design where necessary
  • Monitors the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity, and timeliness of action of all assigned projects
  • Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of technical responsibility
  • Performs engineering reviews and analyses when necessary
  • Reviews other engineers' work and provides appropriate guidance and training when necessary
  • Participates in the development and changes of Rules
  • Advises assigned staff in matters related to the application of Rules and Regulations
  • Prepares written responses to clients in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintains liaison with other engineering specialists internally and externally
  • Monitors the performance, development potential, and training needs of engineers assigned
  • Keeps management informed of manpower needs
  • Develops or assists in the development of qualification statements, proposals, bids, and other presentation materials
