Full Job Description:

• Promptly rooms patients; greets patients, introduces him/herself, assist the patient to the exam room and helps with special needs (such as, wheelchair, etc.).
• Prepares the patient for the physician, which may include taking vitals, height, weight, BMI, pulse and temperature, then documenting in the EMR, getting standing orders completed, etc.
• Reviews prior visit information and documents any changes in medications, allergies, etc.
• Makes every effort to obtain prior test results.
• Inquires from the patient as to what prescriptions might need to be refilled during this visit and prepares them for the doctor.
• According to the visit reason, the Direct Patient Care Staff provides the patient instructions as to how to undress.
• Reviews the schedule and sees that the necessary equipment is in the room prior to the doctor entering.
• Closely monitors patient flow, seeking out ways to assist the doctor in working more efficiently; i.e. making certain patients don’t remain in rooms when they should be going to lab or x-ray, making sure patients receive injections or gives patient instructions promptly as requested by the doctor. Also helps to notify patients when the physician is running behind.
• Completes all necessary referral info and promptly completes the referral and informs the patient of such.
• Listens to the patient and physician. Has the ability and knowledge to answer patient questions appropriately. Will ask for assistance if the questions are out of their scope of practice. Documents these conversations in EMR.
• Sees that all patient phone calls are returned the day received. And if an answer is not yet known, then she/he is to make sure that the patient is kept aware.
• As test results come into the Inbox, she/he reports to the patient as instructed by the doctor. If the doctor requests a return visit, then she/he will schedule the appointment time.
• Tracks outside pending reports ensuring reports are received.

PATIENT RECORDS:

• Appropriately documents in the EMR all patient phone calls and prescription refills.
• Carefully reviews all prior information to determine if it might be time for a return visit prior to a refill authorization, time for a CPE, time for lab work, etc. Informs the patient and makes the necessary appointment and carefully documents this in EMR.
• Explains to the patient the tests/services that are ordered by the doctor that may not be covered by the patient’s insurance. If the patient declines the services, she/he should let the doctor know and document in the EMR. If the patient desires to proceed with these tests/services, then she/he will requests that the patient sign an ABN (Advance Beneficiary Notice of Non-Coverage) and files in the EMR.

PERFORMING ANCILLARY CARE:

• Performs phlebotomy/lab analysis when she/he observes patients are waiting and assists as needed (or in the absence of a phlebotomist). Also making sure that she/he informs her/his partner when away from their area.
• Follows all lab policies and procedures regarding safety, infection control, QA and QC according to guidelines.
• Promptly and accurately performs requested studies and treatments such as EKG and respiratory function studies.
• Proactively seeks out areas where she/he could benefit from additional training and arranges it with the Clinical Supervisor
