- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, confidential department.
- Customer service skills are required.
- Successful completion of background checks, pre-employment screening, and drug screening is required.
- Act as a liaison between medical, clinical, and other internal departments as well as outside providers, including phone triage, appointment scheduling, required paperwork, and notification of appropriate staff.
- Provide clerical assistance to Primary Care staff as needed.
- Maintain an adequate supply of forms for assembling charts and new admissions.
- Respond sensitively to patient requests, needs, and rights.
- Escort patients to the dining room, store, and other assigned locations.
- Reconcile the bed book, census, bed board, and daily charge book each shift, including bed assignments.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Coordinate emergency services as needed for patient transfers to a higher level of care.
- Participate in fire and disaster drills according to facility procedures while ensuring patient safety.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Prior secretarial or medical ward clerk experience is preferred.
