- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or have an education equivalency for licensing.

- Hold Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- Hold the applicable Registered Nurse or Registered Professional Nurse license for the state of work location, or an eligible compact-state Registered Nurse license where specified.
- Accept patient care assignments and communicate appropriately with clinical area team members.
- Conduct nursing assessments using subjective and objective data.
- Communicate with patients to assess their knowledge of surgical or invasive procedures and expectations, while adhering to universal protocol.
- Involve patients and significant others in care planning, education, discharge planning, and prioritization of needs.
- Demonstrate basic nursing skills, observe and document patient responses to care, use available teaching resources, and maintain a safe environment.
- Evaluate care through ongoing assessments, post-operative calls following surgical procedures, and analysis of patient and family responses during hospitalization.
- Make competent clinical decisions and determine when to involve management or other team members.
- Assist in all areas of surgical services as needed.
- Provide physicians with timely information about changes in patient conditions.
- Document care provided and patient responses in a timely manner.
- Administer medications, treatments, and nursing interventions according to hospital policy.
- Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to surgical nursing practice and deliver age-specific and clinically appropriate care.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Perform other assigned duties.
