Requirements
  • An MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted Alaska medical license or the ability to obtain one.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Family Medicine.
  • An unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration registration.
  • Required Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certifications.
  • Knowledge of primary care principles and practices.
  • Ability to provide high-quality health care services and perform medical procedures appropriate to outpatient and emergency care settings.
  • Proficiency in using the electronic medical record and other clinically required technology.
  • Minor and major surgical skills for procedures in which the physician has received adequate training and maintained proficiency.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, analyze complex situations, solve problems, and implement clinical program strategies.
  • Ability to support standards of care, The Joint Commission, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk-management principles, and medical ethics.
Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-based primary medical care to SEARHC patients, including pediatric and obstetrical care and deliveries.
  • Provide services outside the clinic when needed, including at local long-term care centers, the Pioneer Home, patients’ homes, and local schools.
  • Provide guidance, consultation, and advice to SEARHC Advanced Practice Clinicians and, when necessary, provide supervision and practice-plan oversight.
  • Lead and manage a full panel of patients in coordination with the integrated care team.
  • Document all patient services in the medical record according to medical staff rules and regulations.
  • Participate in the shared Obstetrics and Pediatric call rotation.
  • Participate in SEARHC and, as needed, BRH quality and performance-improvement programs, and maintain active staff membership at both health care facilities.
  • Provide medical education and teaching to visiting medical students and resident physicians.
  • Participate in shared evening clinic and occasional weekend clinic coverage.
  • Complete ongoing medical education to maintain licensure and board certification.
  • Serve occasionally as a consultative liaison to rural health care providers, including field visits to Angoon, Hoonah, and Kake.
  • Perform general hospitalist duties occasionally when needed.
  • Provide clinical leadership, promote teamwork and collaboration, provide clinical guidance to Advanced Practice Clinicians, and resolve conflict.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
  • STABLE certification.
