SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE: This position is responsible for organizing the supplies, instruments, and sterile field in the operative area to ensure patient safety and quality of care by performing the following duties.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

1. Selects and prepares supplies and surgical instruments for each case.
2. Assists with the physical preparation of the operating room for each case, including wiping, and mopping OR. 
3. Creates the sterile field and maintains sterile technique during operative procedures.  
4. Assists surgeon during surgery, passes correct instruments, supplies, and sutures as needed by the surgeon, sponges or suctions the operative site, retracts tissue for exposure at the operative site, assists with irrigation under immediate supervision of the licensed health care practitioner, cuts sutures, and anticipates next steps of procedure.
5. Assists with the count of sponges, needles, and other surgical items.
6. Under appropriate supervision, manages and prepares medications from the sterile field.  
7. Familiar with all aspects of instrument processing and assists as appropriate.
8. Assists with support duties as assigned, to include, but not limited to, downtime terminal cleaning, cleaning bays in pre/post op, assisting with lasers, and patient transport.
9. Communicates with the leadership team daily to ensure an efficient running operation to include communication regarding problems, questions, scheduling, and creative ideas.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• WA State Surgical Technologist Registration (Upon Hire) 
• Minimum of six (6) month clinical medical experience 
• BLS Certification within ninety (90) days of hire

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ophthalmic experience 
• Ophthalmic experience in a surgery setting 
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
