Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) credential is required.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and general computer use is required.
  • Access to a phone at all times and the ability to complete basic mathematical calculations are required.
  • The employee must be able to perform frequent standing, walking, sitting, handling, fingering, reaching, squatting or kneeling, bending, and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 100 pounds, with heavier items handled occasionally.
  • The employee must have near, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception; hearing sufficient to detect emergency sounds, intercoms, and fan motors; and the senses of smell, taste, and touch.
  • The employee must be able to wear required personal protective equipment, including back belts when lifting or handling heavy products.
  • The employee is subject to pre-employment background and drug screening.
Responsibilities
  • Provide customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding professionally to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Monitor sales activities to ensure satisfactory customer service and quality merchandise.
  • Assign employees to specific duties and direct and supervise employees performing sales, inventory, cash-reconciliation, and customer-service activities.
  • Inventory stock and reorder merchandise when inventory reaches specified levels.
  • Maintain records of purchases, sales, requisitions, employee schedules, time cards, inventory, and sales activity.
  • Enforce safety, health, security, and company policies and procedures.
  • Inspect merchandise received or held for resale, verify pricing and displays, and assess product condition and functionality.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, promote, demote, and terminate personnel when appropriate, in coordination with the Store Manager.
  • Perform subordinate work, including cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.
  • Establish and implement department policies, goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Instruct staff on handling difficult and complicated sales.
  • Formulate merchandise pricing policies according to profitability requirements.
  • Estimate consumer demand and determine the types and quantities of merchandise to sell.
  • Plan and prepare employee work schedules and maintain related records.
  • Prepare reports for management and budget departments from inventory and sales records.
  • Develop methods and procedures with company officials to increase sales, expand markets, and promote the business.
  • Plan budgets and authorize payments and merchandise returns.
  • Operate shifts within company guidelines to achieve sales and profit objectives.
  • Assist the Store Manager with employee measurement, evaluation, corrective action, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, demotion, and termination.
  • Assist the Store Manager in developing employee productivity, maintaining effective schedules and records, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Assist the Store Manager with controlling expenses, maintaining company property, handling customer complaints, preventing theft, displaying merchandise, and maintaining knowledge of local competition.
  • Record hours worked, sales, markups, markdowns, spoilage, and store-use merchandise accurately.
  • In the Store Manager’s absence, organize and submit daily sales information and prepare or ensure completion of end-of-week and end-of-year reports.
  • Close out payroll accurately and ensure employees are paid correctly and on time.
  • Notify the Store Manager or supervisor of personnel situations, policy violations, and missed bank deposits.
  • Maintain a low cash drawer, use the safe as instructed, keep the safe locked, and complete shift-checkout reports.
  • Enforce correct vendor check-in procedures.
  • Maintain coolers, shelves, and displays by keeping them full and fronted.
  • Clean and maintain store equipment, floors, shelves, parking areas, and surrounding grounds.
  • Prepare and maintain perishable foods according to company standards.
  • Order and maintain merchandise to prevent out-of-stocks and build and maintain sellable displays.
  • Unload stock trucks and perform other tasks assigned by the Store Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Assume full responsibility for store operations in the Store Manager’s absence and perform duties generally associated with the Store Manager role.
