Requirements
  • A Team Attitude - ability to follow directions and take guidance
  • Strong Safety Acumen - a deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines is a must, and adherence to all Health & Safety Policies and Procedures is mandatory
  • Strong Communication Skills - must be able to clearly present and explain health and safety topics
  • Education – successful completion of the NAIT Occupational Health and Safety program
  • Analytic Skills - must be able to effectively analyze live situations as well as data and produce risk assessments accordingly
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in accordance with legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance with policies/laws by inspecting actions of employees and operations
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle workers compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics
  • Produce detailed, accurate reports and develop relevant policies
