- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- The role requires interpersonal, problem-solving, prioritization, clear communication, confidentiality, independent work, teamwork, computer use, and the ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems.
- The role requires sustained alertness and concentration, frequent computer or CRT use, regularly lifting bulky or moderately heavy weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or handling effort.
- Familiarity with various insurance and referral policies is required.
- Provide general nursing staff functions under the provider’s direction.
- Record vital signs, perform initial patient assessments, obtain concise patient histories, and provide clinical information and support to providers.
- Process and post information to patient charts and educate patients and families about medications, treatment, care, and referrals.
- Assist in other areas as needed and perform phone triage of patients.
- Prepare for patient appointments, maintain documentation standards, and review charts before appointments to ensure requests and documents are available.
- Prepare patients for examinations, including assessments, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine hearing or vision testing; provide initial condition assessments to physicians as needed.
- Triage calls and determine urgency, appointment necessity, or whether phone advice is sufficient.
- Assist providers with minor and emergency procedures and examinations, follow physician instructions, and reassure patients during examinations.
- Schedule tests and procedures in other departments under provider direction, prepare patients, and provide appropriate instructions.
- Document test and procedure results, notify patients of results, and document appropriately in medical records.
- Perform point-of-care laboratory tests as directed and accurately document required information in patient medical records.
- Coordinate admissions and referrals and facilitate prescription requests.
- Provide patients and families with appropriate care education under provider direction.
- Take verbal, telephone, and written medication orders from physicians; administer ordered treatments and medications orally, intramuscularly, or subcutaneously, and record all related data.
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; record test and assessment results in patient charts.
- Participate in performance-improvement monitoring, collect and collate quality-of-care data, ensure care meets appropriate standards, and use improvement results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
- Communicate information back to other healthcare team members.
- Attend required staff, educational, and other meetings and participate in ongoing educational activities.
- Maintain professional records demonstrating competency and continuing education.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation, disability, and State of Michigan forms.
- Share knowledge with colleagues and contribute to their professional development.
- Stock supplies and maintain examination rooms.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Six to twelve months of experience in healthcare is preferred.
