Job Description
At SAIF, our research analysts are much more than data-crunchers and fact-gatherers. Their insights play a crucial role in helping uskeep workers’ compensation affordable while maintainingSAIF’s financial integrity for the future.
Our new industry and medical research analyst will support and inform the actuarial team and the entire organization with a focus on medical trends and healthcare policy. Monitoring internal and external sources for insights that that may impact SAIF, you’ll collaborate on operational and enterprise projects, as well as support regulatory reporting.
We’re looking for five or more years’ experience in research and analysis within the insurance, finance, or healthcare industries. Experience in medical data, data visualization and communication, and work with business intelligence tools is preferred.

Note: Remote workers may be required to travel to SAIF’s offices in Salem, Oregon, periodically.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research and analysis to support reporting, inform strategic decisions and provide awareness and advice to senior management, with a particular focus on research on medical costs, utilization, treatment patterns and practices, outcomes, healthcare policy
- Monitor internal and external information sources for developments that may affect SAIF’s operations and strategies, including such areas as regional business conditions, industry and cost trends, competitors, demographics, legal or regulatory changes, and system health. Assess potential impacts, and present recommendations for management consideration
- Identify opportunities and implement strategies using data, technology, or innovative techniques to improve processes and advance research initiatives
- Represent the medical data perspective in operational reviews, enterprise projects and strategic initiatives
- Contribute to regulatory reporting needs, including capturing and analyzing data and providing quality assurance assistance
- Support the actuarial division by providing data and conducting analysis to inform reserving, pricing, reinsurance and risk management decisions
- Provide analytical support to the Claims division to advance operational reporting, partner on data integrity, and evaluate medical programs
- Collaborate with IT and the Data & Analytics function to support data governance, incorporate the use of analytics to inform decisions, and help progress data strategy and transformation
- Serve as a consultant and resource for internal and external business information, proactive problem resolution, and application of analytical techniques
- Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles
- Continually sustain the Inclusive Leadership Competencies (ILC) through the Explorer level on an annual basis
Additional functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to support team objectives and organizational goals, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in responding to evolving priorities and needs.
Recommended qualifications:
- Five or more years of research and analysis experience in the insurance, finance, or healthcare industry. Background working with medical cost data and using data visualization, data querying, and business intelligence tools is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, or a related field.

Compensation & Benefits
Typical hiring range: $88,842 - $104,520. The pay range for this position is annually based on a full-time schedule. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications & education.

Full salary range: $78,390 - $130,650
