Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional editing experience in digital publishing, content marketing, or a similar field, with before-and-after samples.
  • Excellent command of grammar, structure, and style, with judgment about when rules should flex.
  • Experience owning or meaningfully shaping a house style guide.
  • A track record of providing feedback that improves a writer’s next draft as well as the current one.
  • Practical experience adapting content structure and discovery to artificial intelligence and AI-driven search.
  • Experience working with subject-matter experts and non-professional writers, including diplomatically and firmly challenging their work.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing editorial workflows across multiple pieces and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven startup environment.
Responsibilities
  • Catch spelling, grammar, factual, and formatting errors before publication.
  • Rewrite passive constructions into active voice, prioritize plain language over jargon, remove unnecessary words, and tighten bloated sentences.
  • Verify that heading hierarchy from H1 through H3 is logical and accurate.
  • Trace claims, statistics, and quotations to primary sources and flag unverified material.
  • Define proper nouns and terms on first mention within each section.
  • Apply Inspira’s house style consistently across punctuation, capitalization, formatting, and tone.
  • Flag style-guide deviations so writers learn the rules, and evolve the guide as the content and audience grow.
  • Match content format to search intent, such as using listicles for transactional intent and guides for informational intent.
  • Ensure sections lead with the main point in the first sentence or two.
  • Break content into self-contained sections that clearly answer individual questions for readers and retrieval systems.
  • Structure key claims as clear subject–predicate–object statements.
  • Identify crawler-oriented phrasing and revise it for human readers.
  • Ensure link text is specific and descriptive rather than generic.
  • Evaluate whether content provides original value through data, expert quotations, or firsthand experience.
  • Assess whether content demonstrates expertise through sourcing, credentials, and depth.
  • Distinguish content that artificial intelligence can generate from content requiring human experience or judgment, and guide writers toward the latter.
  • Design and document repeatable editorial workflows, including briefs, review stages, and approval gates.
  • Give writers specific, actionable feedback that explains the principle behind each change.
  • Audit high-performing content and evaluate why users would choose it over competing material.
  • Understand how each piece fits within Inspira’s broader content strategy.
  • Work directly with coaches, subject-matter experts, and the content team to take drafts from rough to publication-ready across blogs, guides, and marketing content.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience editing for a competitive, high-stakes audience such as admissions, higher education, professional services, or a similar field.
  • Familiarity with search engine optimization fundamentals, including intent matching, natural anchor text, and avoiding over-optimization.
  • Experience building or documenting editorial processes from scratch.
  • Background in content strategy beyond line editing.
