Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of experience working in grievances and appeals, claims, or customer service, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to follow external accreditation and regulatory requirements, internal policies, department guidelines, and review tools.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze grievance and appeal issues, claims events, and pertinent medical records.
  • Ability to analyze and render determinations on assigned non-complex grievance and appeal issues and prepare clear written communications.
  • Ability to work with non-complex pre-service and post-service grievances and appeals involving member, provider, regulatory, and third-party customers and multiple products.
  • Ability to serve as a liaison with medical management, legal, service operations, and other internal departments when needed.
Responsibilities
  • Review, analyze, and process non-complex pre-service and post-service grievances and appeals in accordance with accreditation, regulatory, and internal requirements.
  • Use guidelines and review tools to research grievance and appeal issues and pertinent claims and medical records, approve cases, or summarize and route cases to nursing or medical staff.
  • Strictly follow department guidelines and tools during grievance and appeal reviews.
  • Analyze and render determinations on assigned non-complex grievance and appeal issues.
  • Complete written communication documents conveying grievance and appeal determinations.
  • Serve as a liaison between grievances and appeals and medical management, legal, service operations, and other internal departments.
  • Do not conduct utilization or medical management reviews requiring interpretation of clinical information.

  • Demonstrated business writing proficiency.
  • Understanding of provider networks, the medical management process, the claims process, company internal business processes, and internal local technology.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving, facilitation, and analytical skills.
