Requirements
  • A graduate degree is required; if the graduate degree is not in nursing, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a graduate degree in a related discipline from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • At least three years of work experience as a professional registered nurse providing direct patient care.
  • A current unencumbered state professional registered nurse license or enhanced compact nurse licensure relevant to the state of teaching location.
  • Professional competence and expertise in teaching must be maintained through activities such as nursing practice, continuing education programs, conferences, workshops, seminars, academic courses, research projects, and professional writing.
  • The candidate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, teach, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education program.
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum.
  • Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation for total program review.
  • Lead simulation learning experiences in the Nursing Lab.
  • Oversee instruction and grading of clinical adjuncts.
  • Facilitate nursing students’ application of theory to clinical practice.
  • Attend hospital-based orientations.
  • Maintain knowledge of the overall program, program outcomes, and assigned course objectives.
  • Communicate with clinical agency representatives, staff, faculty, and students using professional techniques.
  • Identify and immediately communicate problem areas or clinical concerns to Course Lead Faculty and recommend changes and solutions as appropriate.
  • Communicate weekly and as needed with Course Lead Faculty concerning student progress, clinical issues, suggestions, and professional learning needs.
  • Grade associated clinical papers and provide students with timely and clear feedback.
  • Maintain records on student performance, including Student Success Plans, Progressive Disciplinary Plans, and mid-term and final clinical evaluations.
  • Complete clinical site evaluations.
  • Adhere to and enforce the policies and procedures of Arizona College of Nursing and the assigned clinical facility.
  • Plan, teach, and evaluate clinical learning experiences in conjunction with other team members.
  • Connect students to College resources for their success.
  • Demonstrate and coach students on leadership and ethics, communication and critical thinking, teamwork and collaboration, and responsibility and dependability.
  • Maintain a campus presence and contribute positively to campus culture.
  • Provide input into developing, evaluating, and revising program policies through the governance structure.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, in-service offerings, and other nursing events such as graduation.
  • Complete required Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act training and uphold its guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience teaching in a registered nursing program at a college or university.
  • Certified Nurse Educator certification.
  • National certification in an area of nursing specialty.
