If you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and enjoy challenging problem solving, this is an opportunity for you.  We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Thermal Design Engineer to help develop thermal management systems for Dojo – Tesla’s AI training computer. Your expertise will be instrumental in taking best-in-class thermal hardware to production.

Job Responsibilities

• Designing, modelling, and validation of liquid cooling solutions for datacenter hardware 
• Collaborate with thermal, mechanical, electrical, systems, firmware, manufacturing and test engineers to take designs from prototype through production and deployment 
• Support component and system testing and validation efforts. Provide hands-on support during new system bring-up 
• Thermal component design and component selection such as coldplates, fans, and thermal distribution manifolds 
• Hands-on experience with typical thermal and fluid dynamics tests such as P-Q measurement (pressure – flow test), thermocouples, data acquisition devices, thermal test vehicles, etc. 
• Collaborate with electrical and firmware engineers to define thermal control policy and algorithms 
• Perform feasibility studies to evaluate design concepts and propose new product architectures and product improvements 
• Support development of engineering and reliability test plans, test data analysis, and troubleshooting of design issues 
• Collaborate with suppliers to source parts, tool new designs, and bring up manufacturing lines 

Job Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in thermal modeling software (preferably Ansys Icepak) 
• Strong knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and mechanicals 
• Prior experience with datacenters is a plus 
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment 
• Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to perform first principles analysis to ensure a successful design
