- Collect and process human biological specimens, including performing phlebotomy and point-of-care testing as needed according to established procedures and protocols.
- Assist investigators during dissections or surgery and provide research support for tissue collection, processing, and specimen distribution in outpatient clinics.
- Maintain knowledge of specimen collection devices and tubes.
- Maintain laboratory and surgical areas using proper aseptic techniques.
- Label, receive, and process blood, urine, tissue, and other samples for clinical trials according to protocol guidelines, including logging samples into and out of the department.
- Travel to specimen-collection locations and obtain specimens from various sites.
- Request, receive, and return tissue samples from outside pathology facilities.
- Send tissue blocks to vendors for slide cutting and ship slides to the appropriate study laboratory.
- Document study participant information and clinical data according to data-management protocols while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Maintain clear and accurate written and electronic laboratory records that are readily accessible to the Research Laboratory Manager.
- Organize work by matching protocol requirements with laboratory kit supply and inventory management, specimen collection, labeling, sorting, logging, storage, shipment, and tracking.
- Maintain accurate records of collected samples and ensure correct labeling and secure storage.
- Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and pathologists to support efficient operations and high-quality research output.
- Receive and direct specimens for send-out testing.
- Complete proficiency testing and quality-control checks as needed.
- Monitor ambient-room, refrigerator, and freezer temperatures and troubleshoot deviations appropriately.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment in the laboratory and during sample collection and processing.
- Use personal protective equipment appropriately and follow safe work practices.
- Maintain equipment and keep laboratories and ancillary clinics stocked with research laboratory manuals, kits, and supplies.
- Prepare paperwork and perform clerical duties, including answering phones and entering computer data.
- Assist clinical research teams, study sponsors, and central and local laboratories with data collection, sample tracking, and query resolution.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- An associate degree or higher is preferred.
- Clinical research or oncology experience is highly preferred.

Executing a major renovation around cancer care: how Tennessee Oncology is giving its downtown Chattanooga office a major facelift. Tennessee Oncology, which treats nearly half the cancer patients in the Volunteer State, opened the newly-renovated lobby today and began construction on the second and third floors at its downtown Chattanooga clinic, located at 1032 McCallie Ave., as part of a two-year overhaul. Renovating an operational oncology clinic requires expertise so that patient care is not disrupted and the project build-out can be staged efficiently. Tennessee Oncology is partnering with Blevins Construction and Tinker Ma to double the overall size of the clinic, including: * Expanding patient check-in and check-out areas * Doubling the infusion room space * Tripling the exam and new patient consult rooms * Increasing the laboratory, pharmacy, and research pharmacy areas * Adding an administrative suite "Tennessee Oncology has deep roots in the Chattanooga community, and we're excited to unveil our newly renovated lobby and welcome patients and their families into a space designed to enhance the patient experience," said Natalie Dickson, MD, CEO and President of Tennessee Oncology. Tennessee Oncology breaks ground on new cancer center in Murfreesboro. Tennessee Oncology, a nationally recognized physician-owned specialty practice, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, April 23, for a new comprehensive cancer center in Murfreesboro. The center, located at 1635 Blackman Road, will be a three-story, 56,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. Drs. Yajun Ma, Christopher Waynick, and Michael Stany will begin caring for patients in the new facility beginning in spring 2027. The new location will expand access to integrated cancer services in Rutherford County, including advanced imaging, medical oncology, and radiation oncology - bringing more care closer to where patients live and work. "Murfreesboro continues to grow rapidly, and ensuring patients have access to high-quality cancer care close to home is essential," said Natalie Dickson, M.D., President and CEO of Tennessee Oncology.
