Requirements
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a polymer or materials production environment involving adhesives, fabrics, fibers, or a similar area.
  • Hands-on experience with adhesive dispensing processes and their associated failure modes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading root cause investigations and containment activities on a production line.
  • Proficiency in data analysis using Excel, JMP, or Minitab.
  • Familiarity with quality methods including PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • An Associate's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
Responsibilities
  • Own quality on the polymer production line through process and product audits, early issue detection, problem containment, and leadership of the Material Review Board process.
  • Rapidly contain production line issues, document investigations, establish escalation paths, and implement corrective actions that prevent recurrence.
  • Lead the Material Review Board process end-to-end by segregating, investigating, and dispositioning nonconforming material with thorough documentation and cross-functional alignment.
  • Track process audit compliance across polymer assembly operations and drive non-conformances to verified closure.
  • Identify emerging trends through continuous production data analysis before they result in escapes or customer impact.
  • Collect and report product audit data from destructive pull tests and hardness measurements against acceptance criteria, and use the results to drive quality improvements.
  • Write investigation reports and dispositions that others can act on, and escalate issues that exceed scope.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading or participating in a formal Material Review Board process.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical testing, including pull testers, Shore hardness gauges, or similar equipment.
  • Familiarity with a quality management system or ISO 9001 environments.
  • Experience in a high-growth or startup manufacturing environment where processes are actively being developed.

1X is an engineering and robotics company that builds android robots to augment human labor in real-world work settings. The company’s flagship product, EVE, can move through spaces, turn corners, and open doors, using shared autonomy to operate with human guidance as needed. The product relies on specialized actuator systems paired with artificial intelligence to perform tasks that humans would normally do, enabling enterprises to boost productivity and address labor shortages. 1X differentiates itself by commercializing enterprise-ready androids and targeting the US market, leveraging its unique actuator design and AI stack to enable smooth, human-like movements that can navigate real environments. The company’s goal is to provide reliable, scalable robotic helpers that can carry out a range of tasks autonomously or with partial human control, increasing operational efficiency for enterprise customers.

What believers are saying

  • 1X opened its Hayward factory on April 30, 2026, targeting 10,000 NEOs annually.
  • The company sold out 10,000 preorder slots within five days, validating demand.
  • Reuters reported SoftBank's August 27, 2026 majority-stake talks at a $6 billion valuation.

What critics are saying

  • NEO needs remote human teleoperation for complex tasks, exposing brittle autonomy and high service costs.
  • SoftBank's reported $6 billion bid on August 27, 2026 signals capital dependence and dilution pressure.
  • Consumer privacy backlash over camera-equipped home robots can stall adoption if households reject surveillance.

What makes 1X unique

  • 1X combines humanoid design, in-house manufacturing, and shared autonomy for home deployment.
  • Hayward factory and Palo Alto HQ give 1X tight control over robotics iteration.
  • NEO targets consumer households, not just warehouses, opening a larger market than enterprise robots.

$20,000 humanoid robot Neo folds laundry and waters plants — but needs remote human help to work

Robotics company 1X has launched preorders for Neo, billed as the world's first consumer-ready humanoid robot, priced at $20,000 or $499 monthly for a six-month commitment. The 5-foot-6-inch robot can perform household tasks like unloading dishwashers and watering plants, and features a built-in large language model. Neo has a soft body, moves slowly, carries up to 55 pounds, and runs for four hours per charge. However, the robot occasionally falls over and requires significant human assistance. Complex tasks require remote operation by 1X employees wearing VR headsets. The robot features cameras and can be remotely accessed for training purposes. 1X claims privacy safeguards are in place, though concerns remain about having a camera-equipped robot in homes.

OpenAI-backed 1X releases world model to power humanoid robots

Norwegian humanoid robot company 1X, backed by OpenAI, has released a new world model called 1X World Model (1XWM) designed to enhance robots' understanding and reasoning in the physical world. The model generates future videos from text and initial images during inference, then infers robot actions from these predictions. Trained on web videos and limited robot data, 1XWM targets 1X's Neo humanoid robot, currently in mass production for home use. Neo can generate predictive videos and reason about household tasks. However, the company noted the current model requires a dual modelling process for video and action generation and has not yet achieved true zero-shot execution. The development aims to give robots general behavioural capabilities for domestic scenarios.
