The Leads Discovery and Optimization (LDO) Group within Small Molecule Drug Discovery in San Diego focuses on delivering novel therapeutics for disease intervention by engaging E3 ubiquitin ligases for targeted protein degradation. We are seeking a highly driven Co-op student to work full-time for 6 months from January-June 2024. This position will focus on studying a novel mechanism of targeted protein degradation. The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary environment to carry out cell-based and molecular experiments. Candidates will work at the cutting edge of drug discovery in a premiere biopharmaceutical company. This position will enable the candidate to gain experience and critical technical skills to build a strong foundation for a future research career in biomedical sciences.
- Design and implementation of cell-based reporter assays to interrogate a novel targeted protein degradation modality
- Maintain mammalian cell lines
- Transient transfection of mammalian cell lines
- Conduct routine molecular and cellular experiments including DNA/RNA/protein extraction, immunoblot analysis, and immunoprecipitation
- Assist senior researchers in executing, conducting analyses, and reporting results of experiments
- Familiarity with literature and internal best practices to identify opportunities to improve productivity and quality of work
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and recommend corrective actions for routine problems
- Maintain an accurate, comprehensive, and current laboratory notebook
- Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports
- Communicate results via written reports and oral presentations
Qualifications & Experience
- Junior or Senior undergraduate enrolled in a full-time university program which includes or approves a six-month full-time co-op experience at BMS in San Diego, and majoring in a relevant field, such as Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, etc.
- Previous research experience apart from laboratory courses
- Outstanding problem-solving and organization skills
- Effective team player and strong individual contributor
- Self-driven, flexible, pragmatic, and able to handle multiple tasks while delivering high quality data
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
The starting compensation for this job is a range from $23.00 - $29.00/hour.
The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed.
Final, individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
