Requirements
  • At least 8 years of hands-on experience in wireless systems development, including LTE and 5G New Radio.
  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Proficiency in signal processing analysis and modeling using MATLAB, Python, or C/C++.
  • Strong understanding of communication theory and signal-processing algorithm design, including timing recovery, signal estimation and detection, multiple-input multiple-output signal estimation and detection, automatic gain control, channel estimation, equalization, coding theory, and beamforming.
  • Familiarity with 5G New Radio system architecture, including the physical layer, numerology, beamforming, and massive multiple-input multiple-output antenna system design.
  • Experience with O-RAN architecture, including functional split options, O-RU, O-DU, O-CU definitions, fronthaul eCPRI/CPRI specifications, and O-RAN Alliance WG4/WG7 compliance.
  • Proven laboratory experience operating and interpreting data from spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and radio-frequency test equipment in a prototype bring-up environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Cadence tools, including Virtuoso, Spectre, or AWR Microwave Office, for schematic capture, simulation, or system-level modeling.
  • Experience authoring system-level specifications and architecture documents that drive integrated-circuit design decisions.
  • Strong fundamentals in radio-frequency system analysis, including noise figure, linearity, IIP3, P1dB, dynamic range, phase noise, spurious emissions, and link-budget methodology.
  • Familiarity with 3GPP 5G New Radio standards testing and compliance methodology, including TR 38.803 and TS 38.104.
Responsibilities
  • Define and own system-level architecture for cellular systems-on-chip, including link budgets, system partitioning, massive multiple-input multiple-output beamforming-chain design, and performance trade-off analysis.
  • Architect and specify O-RAN-compliant subsystems by defining split options 7.2x, 6, and 8, fronthaul interface requirements, and radio-unit/distributed-unit functional partitioning with protocol and firmware teams.
  • Develop and maintain detailed system specifications covering the radio-frequency front end, baseband, clocking, power, and radio-frequency/digital interfaces as the authoritative reference for integrated-circuit design teams.
  • Build and run system simulations covering radio-frequency links, massive multiple-input multiple-output beamforming gain, interference, error vector magnitude, sensitivity, and dynamic range to validate architecture decisions before tape-out.
  • Lead laboratory bring-up and characterization of prototype hardware using spectrum analyzers, signal generators, vector network analyzers, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers to validate radio-frequency and system performance.
  • Define test plans and acceptance criteria for system-level performance and work with test engineers to implement automated measurement flows in the laboratory.
  • Partner with radio-frequency, analog, digital, and firmware teams to resolve cross-domain issues found in simulation or the laboratory, owning the path from root cause to silicon fix.
  • Drive system-level compliance verification against 3GPP 5G New Radio and O-RAN Alliance specifications and represent the company in standards and alliance working-group discussions where applicable.
  • Produce architecture documents, design-review materials, and technical trade-off memoranda to inform product and executive decisions.
  • Mentor junior systems engineers and establish best practices for system modeling, specification, and laboratory methodology.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using MATLAB or Python for system-level simulation, massive multiple-input multiple-output beamforming modeling, or automated test scripting.
  • Exposure to mixed-signal or radio-frequency integrated-circuit design in advanced CMOS nodes, including 28nm, 22nm, 16nm FD-SOI, or FinFET.
  • Familiarity with O-RAN open-source platforms or test tools such as OSC, OpenAirInterface, and ORAN-SC for integration and conformance testing.
  • Familiarity with artificial-intelligence-assisted test-data analysis and machine-learning-based signal- or power-integrity prediction tools.
  • Experience using Claude Code or similar artificial-intelligence coding assistants for design scripting, simulation automation, or documentation.
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence to technical-documentation workflows, including large-language-model-assisted datasheet parsing, specification drafting, or design-review summarization.
  • Comfort adopting artificial-intelligence-augmented workflows to improve design productivity.

GreenWave Radios designs energy-efficient RF systems around a specialized hardware architecture called a non-linear Radio Processing Unit (nRPU). Its radios run software-defined protocol personalities that can implement many RF standards on a single hardware platform. The core idea is to execute diverse radio functions in software on the nRPU, achieving much lower power consumption than typical radios while preserving flexibility. This approach lets GreenWave Radios support multiple radio standards and features on one hardware base, enabling easier updates and customization without swapping hardware. The company’s goal is to provide ultra-low-power, flexible radios that can support a wide range of protocols efficiently, addressing the demand for long-lasting, adaptable wireless devices.
