Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited college or university in Fire Protection Engineering or Fire Sciences. Degree in other engineering field with fire protection experience also considered.
  • From six (6) or more years of experience in the fire protection engineering/consulting profession.
  • PE or ability to obtain PE within 2 years. NICET level III / IV also considered.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on a highly-motivated team, think outside the box, and be proud of the work you do while having a passion for expanding your knowledge and skills.
Responsibilities
  • Perform building and fire code analysis and code interpretations.
  • Prepare performance-based designs and fire hazards analysis.
  • Develop engineering judgements for code alternatives.
  • Perform analysis of existing fire protection systems, as well as designing new fire protection systems including suppression systems, fire detection, alarm and mass notification systems.
  • Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
  • Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations.
  • Possess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs.
  • Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA.
  • Provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work product.
  • Have or be developing an “area of expertise” within fire protection engineering.
Desired Qualifications
  • Intermediate level computer skills necessary for daily activities, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and simple graphics.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, and fire protection software packages (e.g. CONTAM, FDS).
  • Persuasive writing and technical report writing skills.
  • Possess project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs.
  • Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SFPE and NFPA.
  • Provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work product.
  • Have or be developing an “area of expertise” within fire protection engineering.
  • Perform research and documentation for internal and external distribution.
