Requirements
  • A doctoral degree with expertise in molecular biology, experience with in-vivo and in-vitro models of inflammation testing, and experience with flow cytometry is required.
  • Experience with cell culture techniques and demonstrated ability to isolate and culture primary cells is essential.
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures in animal handling, dissection, Western blotting, polymerase chain reaction, fluorescence imaging, sub-cloning, and transfection is required.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and coordinate duties with the principal investigator is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication is required for manuscript and grant preparation.
  • The candidate must be able to contribute to the optimization of experimental procedures requiring novel approaches.
Responsibilities
  • Perform small-animal cardiac structure and functional analysis and conduct coronary ligation surgeries.
  • Independently perform small-animal echocardiography, including real-time measurements of function using two-dimensional, M-mode, and Doppler technology, and analyze the resulting data.
  • Harvest and stain tissue and perform flow analysis for immune cell subsets.
  • Write manuscripts and grants originating from the collected data.
  • Isolate and analyze exosomes.
  • Maintain cell lines and perform pharmacological assays using a microplate reader.
  • Perform Western blotting assays and quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction assays.
  • Monitor and oversee animal lines, including maintenance of transgenic mouse colonies, using gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques.
  • Analyze and plot assay data.
  • Train other technicians to ensure that laboratory duties are properly executed.
  • Analyze collected data and present results in formal presentations, manuscripts, and grant applications.
  • Independently develop and implement laboratory policies and update standard operating procedures to ensure safe practices for laboratory members.
  • Communicate with the principal investigator and other laboratory members as projects are executed.
  • Contribute to optimizing experimental procedures through novel approaches.
