Responsibilities
- Provides a supportive and positive environment for patients, family members, visitors, employees, and physicians, including spiritual care support to employees.
- Collaborates with members of the patient care team by communicating in a positive, supportive, and non-judgmental manner and reporting pertinent patient care information comprehensively.
- Participates in interprofessional health team rounds, discharge planning, support groups, and other interprofessional teams.
- Under the supervision and mentorship of an assigned senior chaplain or chaplain, provides spiritual care addressing the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of patients and family members of all faiths, particularly pre-operative, critically ill, and dying patients.
- Assists with initial patient screening and assessment, development of patient care plans, and assigned referrals while following protocols established by the precepting chaplain.
- Provides crisis intervention for patients, visitors, and employees with attention to spiritual needs, involving others as needed.
- Seeks guidance from the Certified Educator, Associate Educator, Student Educator, and precepting chaplain and escalates issues or requests to ensure quality and safety.
- Documents patient visits and spiritual care provided accurately and thoroughly in patient records.
- Contributes to corrective-action and improvement activities, quality and safety targets, near-miss reporting, and entries into the Patient Safety Net.
- Uses time and resources effectively and efficiently, assists team members, and minimizes incidental overtime.
- Prepares required patient-care reports and summaries for review and evaluation in compliance with Clinical Pastoral Education program requirements.
- Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies and completes and updates the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
Desired Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree or graduate-level theological degree from an accredited school.
