Verizon secures 80M miles of fibre through 2032 to fuel broadband and AI data-centre expansion

Verizon Communications has secured more than 80 million miles of Corning optical fibre for delivery between 2027 and 2032. The multibillion-dollar agreement will support Verizon's expansion to 40 million to 50 million broadband locations and its AI Connect long-haul corridors. The company generated $6.4 billion in second-quarter free cash flow on $34.3 billion of revenue. Verizon shares traded at $50.075, down slightly from the prior close and 15.73% above its $43.27 GF Value. The deal does not specify minimum annual purchases or detailed financial terms. An even distribution would provide more than 13.3 million fibre miles annually.

Webster residents push back on proposed cell tower. Tue, September 1, 2026 at 9:43 PM Updated Tue, September 1, 2026 at 10:14 PM A map of a proposed Verizon cell tower on Sunflower Drive in Webster is pictured during a public planning board meeting, Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2026. (Photo by Ken Sauer/WHAM) Ask 13 WHAM anything What concerns did Justin Jenner raise about the cell tower? What other tower proposal was delayed with the Verizon one? Why did the town board reject a Verizon tower proposal last year? Webster, N.Y. - A proposal to build a 135-foot cell phone tower in Webster is drawing pushback from neighbors concerned about having the structure near their homes. Residents spoke out during a Webster Planning Board hearing Tuesday night about Verizon's proposal to build the tower on Wildflower Drive. Verizon says the tower is needed to improve cellular service in areas with weak coverage, but some neighbors urged the town to consider other locations. "I have four kids. I don't want them to grow up next to a cell phone tower, and they would be very close to the cell phone tower," resident Justin Jenner said. "I understand folks have issues about not having coverage. You have other options." The planning board ultimately tabled a decision on the proposed cell tower, along with a separate communications tower proposal, until its next meeting. The debate comes after the town board rejected another Verizon cell tower lease proposal last year following public feedback. That tower would have been located between Holt Road and Route 250.
