Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree.
  • Prior related work experience in tutoring or teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Canvas.
  • Strong leadership and collaborative skills.
  • Highly organized work practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Highly developed analytical and creative skills.
  • Proficiency in writing formats and styles, including American Psychological Association, Modern Language Association, Chicago Manual of Style, and American Medical Association.
  • Ability to work effectively at a computer for up to eight hours daily.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
Responsibilities
  • Support students and instructors through classroom writing activities, presentations, and small-group or one-on-one consultations.
  • Collaborate with instructors to develop writing assignments at various levels.
  • Assist students in person and virtually through the Writing Center.
  • Provide feedback on students' writing assignments through in-person sessions, video chat, or email.
  • Provide intensive in-class writing support.
  • Develop training materials and a collection of resources for writing instructors.
  • Train and mentor writing specialists and consultants.
  • Provide student development and learning strategies for working with under-prepared students, students with approved accommodations, and anxious students.
  • Consult with faculty and staff to identify opportunities for curricular and pedagogical enhancement.
  • Conduct writing conferences for students.
  • Stay current on writing-center pedagogy best practices through readings, videos, and conference attendance.
  • Review, lightly edit, and proofread instructors' scholarly articles.
  • Embed directly within the learning management system to provide support to graduate and undergraduate students and instructors as requested.
  • Support campus-wide events, including Family Day and Future Lions.
  • Collaborate with Writing Center colleagues on best practices and conference techniques.
  • Explain grammar concepts, writing pedagogy, and best practices.
  • Observe writing consultants to ensure quality of service.
  • Work with student academic and support services and library staff to support students' academic needs.
  • Develop prerecorded video tutorials supporting concepts and platforms, including Canvas Commons.
  • Track appointments and maintain student records in WCOnline for the assessment plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
