Requirements
  • An Electrical Engineering Technology degree from a recognized institute or college, along with a Canadian Professional Engineering Technology designation (C.E.T.) or the ability to register as a Certified Engineering Technologist.
  • Five to twelve years of electrical design experience.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Experience with lighting design and associated software such as Dialux or AGI32.
  • Experience with fire detection and protection design.
  • Experience with security and access control design.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of regulatory codes and standards, including CSA, NESC, NFPA, and ANSI/IEEE.
Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical design on 12 kV to 500 kV substation projects from the conceptual design stage through construction.
  • Develop AC and DC low-voltage load calculations, battery-bank sizing, cable sizing, cable-tray sizing, lighting calculations for control buildings and substation switchyards, one-line and phasing diagrams, control-building and switchyard plans and sections, ground-grid layouts, grounding details, and conduit and cable-routing plans and details.
  • Prepare security and access-control designs and specifications for buildings.
  • Prepare fire-detection and fire-protection designs and specifications for buildings.
  • Prepare cable schedules and wiring diagrams.
  • Prepare and review drawing lists, engineering documents, specifications, and inspection and testing plans and procedures.
  • Review design documentation with the Owner’s Engineer to ensure that the design satisfies project requirements.
  • Review vendor documents against specifications.
  • Prepare material take-offs for electrical equipment and order materials through the procurement group.
  • Respond to information requests from construction sites and complete project documentation, including as-builts, calculations, and returning data to clients.
  • Travel to project sites and consult with internal groups, external contractors, and clients.
  • Maintain relationships with internal groups, external contractors, and clients.
  • Integrate the latest safe practices and methods into the design.
  • Work within assigned budgets and schedules.
Desired Qualifications
  • High-voltage substation design experience.
  • Power-system calculation experience and associated software such as ETAP.
  • Medium-voltage cable-sizing experience and associated software such as CYMCAP.

Clearlake acquires power grid services platform Qualus from New Mountain Capital

Clearlake Capital Group has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Qualus Corporation, a power and electric grid services platform, from New Mountain Capital. Financial terms were not disclosed. Qualus provides integrated advisory, planning, engineering, digital solutions and field services supporting grid resiliency and sustainability. The company serves investor-owned utilities and commercial organisations, addressing technical complexity created by economic electrification and surging power demands. New Mountain Capital supported Qualus over the past five years during a period of significant growth. The acquisition will be financed by Apollo, Goldman Sachs Alternatives and Clearlake as joint lead arrangers. Clearlake manages over $185 billion in assets and focuses on operational improvements through its O.P.S. approach across multiple sectors.
