Leidos raises 2026 outlook to $18.2B–$18.4B after winning hypersonic missile tracking and AI defense contracts

Leidos Holdings reported second-quarter 2026 results with revenue reaching $4.56 billion, though GAAP net income and earnings per share declined year-on-year. The company raised its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to $18.20–$18.40 billion. Leidos secured several new defence and intelligence contracts, including hypersonic missile tracking payloads and AI and ISR support work. The AMDT3 missile tracking award with Sierra Space reinforces the company's focus on space sensing and onboard processing capabilities. The firm maintained its dividend and authorised a new 20 million-share repurchase programme. Leidos' investment case centres on sustained US national security and digital modernisation spending, though the company faces exposure risk to federal budget shifts. Analysts project revenue reaching $20.3 billion by 2029, requiring 5.4% annual growth.

Leidos to supply flight-proven infrared sensors to Sierra Space for 18 missile defence satellites

Sierra Space has selected Leidos to provide infrared sensing payloads for 18 missile warning and tracking satellites as part of the Accelerated Missile Defense Tranche 3 (AMDT3) Tracking Layer programme. The satellites will detect and track hypersonic and other advanced missile threats from low Earth orbit. Leidos' payloads combine infrared sensing with onboard digital signal processing, enabling mission-relevant tracking data to be generated directly aboard the satellite. The company will also provide ground support equipment and operations support throughout the programme. The award extends Leidos' contributions across Space Development Agency tranches 0, 1, and 2. The company's four Tranche 0 payloads have operated successfully since 2023, and it is delivering 14 sensors for Tranche 1 and 16 for Tranche 2.

SAIC's $630M FAA ATEPS II expiring: the next big hunt.

SAIC's $630M FAA ATEPS II expiring: the next big hunt. By Harvey Bennett Published: August 1, 2026 The $630M Elephant in the Room: SAIC's FAA ATEPS II. If you are tracking high-value federal IT and engineering contracts, your eyes should be locked on the Federal Aviation Administration's Air Traffic Engineering and Program Support (ATEPS) II contract. Awarded to Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in July 2025, this behemoth carries a ceiling of $629,784,465. With an estimated expiration window approaching within the next 12 months of the award date, the clock is ticking on one of the most significant opportunities in the government aviation sector. This isn't just another IT services contract. ATEPS II supports the backbone of the National Airspace System (NAS). It provides the technical and professional services required to maintain, upgrade, and operate the complex air traffic control infrastructure that keeps U.S. skies safe. When a contract of this magnitude expires, it signals a massive shift in market dynamics, resource allocation, and competitive positioning for prime contractors. Why this contract matters beyond the dollar figure. The scope of ATEPS II is broad, encompassing: * Air Traffic Control (ATC) System Engineering: Supporting the NextGen modernization efforts. * Program Management Support: Ensuring seamless integration of new technologies into legacy systems. * Technical Services: Including cybersecurity, data analytics, and systems integration for mission-critical infrastructure. For SAIC, this contract represents a cornerstone of their federal aviation portfolio. For competitors, it represents a rare chance to disrupt a dominant incumbent in a space that requires deep domain expertise and sustained performance over years. Who will compete for the crown? The recompete for ATEPS II will likely attract heavy hitters from the defense and IT services sectors. Given the technical complexity and the need for seamless transition, expect bids from: * Booz Allen Hamilton: With a strong presence in DoD and intelligence community IT/OT convergence, they are a natural contender for high-stakes engineering support. * Leidos: Known for large-scale mission support and engineering services, Leidos has the scale and federal experience to challenge SAIC. * General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT): With deep roots in federal IT and infrastructure management, GDIT could leverage its existing FAA relationships. * ManTech: Specializing in mission-critical IT and engineering, ManTech is often a dark horse in large-scale recompete scenarios. Actionable intelligence for contractors. If you are a subcontractor or a smaller prime looking to position yourself for this opportunity, consider the following: * Focus on NextGen Expertise: The FAA's modernization agenda is central to ATEPS II. Highlight your experience with NextGen technologies, cloud migration in regulated environments, and zero-trust architecture for OT systems. * Emphasize Continuity: The FAA cannot afford downtime. Your proposal must demonstrate a robust transition plan and a commitment to maintaining operational continuity during any potential changeover. * Partner Strategically: Teaming with firms that have existing relationships with the FAA or complementary engineering capabilities can strengthen your bid. The expiration of SAIC's ATEPS II contract is not just a procurement event; it's a market signal. Watch for the Request for Proposal (RFP) release, which will provide further clarity on the FAA's evolving priorities and the specific technical challenges they aim to address in the next phase of air traffic management.
