  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Alabama nursing licensure or MSL.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required before the conclusion of the orientation period.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to obtain additional education related to the scope of practice.
Responsibilities
  • Complete all components of the nursing assessment for new admissions within the indicated time frame according to age-specific requirements for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Initiate and ensure medication reconciliation through the admission, transfer, and discharge processes as applicable.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate individualized nursing care based on identified problems and age-specific or developmental requirements.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with treatment team members to provide quality patient care and maintain an accurate and timely interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Assess and document patient condition, observations, interventions, and responses on an ongoing basis, including normal system review, behavioral factors, and age-specific factors.
  • Plan and provide patient or significant-other education based on physical, behavioral, psychological-developmental, and age-related factors after identifying barriers to learning.
  • Perform venipuncture according to hospital policy for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Administer medications safely while maintaining the medication and patient verification process according to hospital policy.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and self.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of core measures and guidelines for meeting requirements.
  • Function as a preceptor and mentor.
