Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical or biomedical engineering, or a related discipline, and at least 12 years of related experience in the medical device or another regulated industry, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Extensive experience in a clinical or technical innovation role, with specific focus on process, Good Laboratory Practice, Human Factors and Usability, and/or assessing the design and usability of endovascular or neurovascular devices.
  • Experience leading technical teams through the execution of novel technologies.
  • Ability to understand what is clinically meaningful to physicians who use similar technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including senior management, field experts, investors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise in execution throughout the product development cycle.
  • Expertise in product design under ISO 13485 and the ability to interpret regulations, guidelines, and policy statements, including QSR, MDD, and ISO, or comparable quality systems.
  • Experience and involvement with Medical Device Reports, Investigational Device Exemptions, Premarket Approval applications, and 510(k) filings.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with technical writing capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects independently and influence others through proven decision-making and a hands-on, results-oriented work style.
  • Ability to travel 15–20% of the time.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert when establishing and implementing product-development project plans, including preclinical testing, bench testing, model development, in-vitro test methods and plans, and in-vivo animal studies.
  • Oversee budget spending for preclinical projects and ensure appropriate resources are used to continuously develop and improve internal testing capabilities.
  • Contribute to strategies for the clinical use of products and recommend solutions aligned with company objectives.
  • Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to identify critical issues and communicate project advancements.
  • Provide regular management updates on project status and critical issues that may affect project completion dates, and collect input and direction to revise tactical plans.
  • Create and execute design verification and testing plans, leading team meetings where progress is discussed, decisions are made, and updates are communicated.
  • Ensure project teams conduct preclinical testing within design controls and applicable quality standards, and ensure products are designed, developed, tested, manufactured, and documented according to applicable global regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and performance management of assigned team members.
  • Stay current on information related to high-quality preclinical testing capabilities.

Imperative Care appoints Jay Martin as chief commercial officer

Imperative Care, a medical technology company focused on thromboembolic disease treatments, has appointed Jay Martin as Chief Commercial Officer. Martin will lead commercial strategy, expand strategic partnerships and build infrastructure to support the company's growth and commercialisation efforts. Martin brings over 25 years of executive leadership experience in medical devices, robotics and imaging. Imperative Care raises $100M to advance stroke treatment tech and robotic platform

Imperative Care, a medical technology company treating thromboembolic disease, has closed an oversubscribed $100 million convertible note financing. The round was co-led by new investors Elevage Medical Technologies and Perceptive Advisors, alongside existing investor Catalio Capital Management. New investors Longaeva Partners and Brown Advisory participated, with support from existing backers including Ally Bridge Group and Bain Capital Life Sciences. Evan Melrose, CEO of Elevage Medical Technologies, has joined Imperative Care's board of directors. The funding will support commercialisation of the company's stroke and vascular thrombectomy portfolios, next-generation product development including the Telos robotic platform, and clinical evidence generation. Imperative Care's products have been used in over 78,000 procedures commercially. BofA Securities and J.P. Morgan served as joint placement agents.

Imperative Care introduces ischaemic stroke treatment catheter. The Zoom 4S catheter is designed to simplify stroke thrombectomy by reducing device exchanges. Imperative Care has launched the Zoom 4S catheter, an advanced thrombectomy device for treating ischaemic stroke. Marking the latest addition to its Zoom Stroke System, the new catheter aims to expand access to the ADAPT 2.0 technique. It aims to address a broader range of patient anatomies during aspiration thrombectomy procedures. It is designed to simplify stroke thrombectomy by reducing device exchanges and introducing a single setup approach. The ADAPT 2.0 technique, central to this advancement, involves positioning an intracranial 0.088in catheter closer to the clot and utilising an asymmetric tip design for targeted aspiration. The system applies Continuous Dual AspiraTion (CDAT) through two catheters for enhanced clot ingestion. First published in 2014, the original ADAPT technique showed the clinical benefits of direct aspiration as a frontline treatment for acute ischaemic stroke.
