Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience in a retail, food services, or dining operations role are required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • The ability to lead and manage others is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Excellent customer service skills are required.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Basic knowledge of food safety standards and point-of-sale handling procedures is required.
  • The ability to train, motivate, and develop staff is required.
  • The ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on operational needs is required.
  • Serv-Safe and other applicable certifications are required within 12 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Support and oversee the daily operations of a retail or convenience-store dining location.
  • Maintain accurate records of operational and inventory procedures.
  • Plan and implement special promotions, retail item updates, and events with leaders and peers.
  • Monitor and assess customer flow, adjusting staffing levels and operational procedures to meet demand.
  • Ensure efficient and timely service.
  • Assist the leader with building a positive work environment.
  • Conduct routine operational meetings with student employees in the absence of the leader.
  • Directly supervise student employment staff to ensure customer service and productivity.
  • Ensure student employees are trained on food safety, equipment use, and customer service standards.
  • Interview, hire, orient, and train new student employees.
  • Recognize student employees.
  • Assist with planning work schedules and ensure adequate daily staffing.
  • Evaluate student employee performance as the primary performance manager, with input from other leaders as required.
  • Perform disciplinary action, including discharging subordinates when necessary.
  • Control inventory, order products, and restock food and supplies.
  • Manage point-of-sale drawers, handle transactions, and assist with daily register reconciliation.
  • Maintain financial transaction records and report discrepancies.
  • Make financial recommendations to the manager for the annual capital budget process.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the retail location.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Ensure sanitation requirements, quality standards, and department goals are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Collect quality-control and quality-assurance data for Department of Health and departmental requirements.
  • Provide a welcoming and friendly environment for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Resolve customer complaints or concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Coordinate maintenance of retail-service equipment in the dining unit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in Business Management, Hospitality Management, a food-related service, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership position is preferred.
