Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • A Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from a certified law school.
  • A license to practice law in at least one state—Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma—or the ability to obtain a limited Kentucky license within six months of hire.
  • At least three years of legal experience; Senior Attorney-level candidates will also be considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals at all organizational levels and across business areas.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to work comfortably in both corporate and field settings.
  • Ability to research, design, and deliver effective presentations.
  • Ability to explain and teach legal concepts in layperson’s terms.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential data.
  • Ability to review and draft various legal documents.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook, and basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel up to 5–10% of the time by automobile and plane.
  • A valid driver’s license and insurability under company policy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Learn about the natural gas pipeline industry and the company.
  • Develop skills across legal disciplines, including labor and employment, contracts, litigation, land, environmental, regulatory, general business law, finance, and accounting, while developing deeper expertise in one or more disciplines.
  • Research legal aspects of business issues and render opinions based on that research.
  • Assist with analyzing and avoiding or mitigating business risks.
  • Assist with educating the workforce on legal matters and legal aspects of business matters.
  • Assist with preparing legal documents.
  • Assist with lawsuits, negotiations, administrative hearings, lobbying efforts, and related matters.
  • Attend all assigned internal or external educational courses.
  • Maintain required Continuing Legal Education.
  • Assist with creating and managing the departmental budget.
  • Assist with ensuring overall organizational compliance.
  • Serve on or lead teams as requested.
  • Suggest ways to provide legal services more efficiently and effectively.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
