Responsibilities
  • Supervise and train staff, evaluate subordinate performance through observation, and recommend department and personnel changes to the Career Education Manager.
  • Assist the Career Training Services Director with department budget preparation and monitor and control expenditures.
  • Assist in developing and implementing new and revised policies and procedures affecting training programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in student counseling activities, including staff and student problem solving, career counseling, and individual student challenges.
  • Evaluate instructors' participation in student evaluation panels.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of policies and procedures affecting training programs.
  • Supervise curriculum and instructional-material development and ensure adherence to approved curricula.
  • Supervise the Academic function to ensure accurate and timely reporting of GED and high school diploma data and audit academic files for compliance with Department of Labor and corporate policies.
  • Review student testing and evaluations, student surveys, and the Center English as a Second Language program, and ensure effective scheduling of student training.
  • Ensure effective participation of training programs during the career preparation period.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property and adhere to safety practices.
  • Review, report, and process accident and injury reports and develop corrective measures to minimize risk and lost-time accidents.
  • Assist with organizing awards and graduation ceremonies.
  • Serve as a co-Disability Coordinator with the Wellness Manager and center staff support.
  • Ensure required Disability Program components are implemented, monitored, and maintained effectively.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the disability initiative, delegate responsibilities, and encourage staff ownership of the program.
  • Participate in applicant file review and ensure files are processed according to standard operating procedures.
  • Review academic files and create accommodation plans based on individualized education programs, Section 504 plans, and school records; enter disability data and accommodation plans in the Center Information System.
  • Coordinate the Center's reasonable accommodation process.
  • Meet new students during orientation to explain the disability program and reasonable accommodation process and provide required forms and brochures.
  • Ensure the student handbook contains accurate and understandable disability-program information and review it annually.
  • Coordinate with safety, facilities, and departmental managers to review and update the center accessibility plan annually.
  • Provide annual Disability Program training to all staff.
  • Review disability data and reasonable accommodation plans in the Center Information System at least every 60 days.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with outside agencies and programs serving students with disabilities.
  • Develop partnerships with organizations and individuals with expertise in job placement and development for individuals with disabilities.
  • Maintain the customized Disability Partnership Tool for Disability Program Compliance Assessments.
  • Develop center-wide disability-awareness activities and display approved disability-related materials.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property and adhere to safety practices.
  • Maintain a center climate free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect.
  • Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling skills, mentoring, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience with the Job Corps program is preferred.
  • A State of Alaska teaching certificate is preferred.
