Requirements
  • Five to ten years of similar or related experience, including time spent in preparatory positions.
  • A college degree.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, generally accepted auditing standards, National Credit Union Administration rules and regulations, National Automated Clearing House Association operating rules, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully; motivate, influence, educate, and advise others on significant matters while maintaining regulatory compliance and organizational standards.
  • Ability to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate routine office equipment and work on a computer for an average of 6–8 hours per day.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required or requested by management.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, and timely attendance.
  • Ability to read and carry out written instructions and follow oral instructions.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger integrity, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and related accounting functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of general ledger and bank reconciliations and month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, internal reporting, and Board financial packet reporting.
  • Provide oversight of accounting entries prepared by staff, including fixed asset transactions and complex or non-routine entries, ensuring proper accounting treatment and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee annual and required Individual Retirement Account reporting, including contributions, distributions, withholding, and required Internal Revenue Service filings.
  • Maintain the integrity of financial records and accounting systems and ensure appropriate review, validation, and approval of financial data.
  • Oversee the annual Texas state escheatment reporting process for unclaimed property.
  • Support financial analysis of income, expenses, balance sheet trends, and product performance for management decision-making and organizational planning.
  • Lead preparation of month-end Board packets and Asset-Liability Committee reporting.
  • Evaluate third-party vendor relationships and pricing related to accounting and operations functions.
  • Oversee cost management initiatives and accounting classification and financial reporting of expenditures.
  • Lead coordination of annual external audits and regulatory examinations, including National Credit Union Administration examinations.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and complete preparation of audit and examination materials and oversee resolution of findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including preparation and submission of the National Credit Union Administration Call Report 5300.
  • Ensure adherence to Automated Clearing House network rules and applicable dispute resolution and exception reporting requirements.
  • Provide leadership and management for the Accounting and Operations Support Departments, including oversight of staff performance, coaching, training, and workload management.
  • Oversee operational processing for Automated Clearing House transactions, debit and credit cards, automated teller machines, share drafts, payroll deposits, title processing, exception handling, and dispute resolution.
  • Ensure processes are completed accurately and timely and comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Ensure Regulation E dispute-resolution timeframes and error-resolution standards are followed and member claims are researched, documented, and resolved.
  • Oversee responses to subpoenas, legal requests, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Establish and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and internal controls supporting operational efficiency, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee systems and applications supporting accounting and operational functions.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, Patriot Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control requirements, applicable laws, regulations, and credit union policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, legislation, conditions, and operations affecting the accounting and operations support departments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
